Congratulations to our 2012 Alumni Association Award Recipients!
NIC Alumni Association announces 2012 award recipients
The North Idaho College Alumni Association was pleased to honor two longtime NIC employees with the 2012 Outstanding Alumni Awards. Former Director of Activities and NIC alumnus Dean Bennett was selected as the 2012 Alumni of the Year award recipient, and Dean of General Studies Bob Murray was recognized as this year’s Honorary Alumnus award recipient. Together they have more than 70 years combined working at NIC and have changed countless lives with their hard work and dedication.
Bennett, who retired this summer after more than 30 years, graduated from NIC in 1976. He led the charge in establishing the Outdoor Pursuits program and the NIC beach hut at Yap-Keehn-Um Beach. Bennett’s ability to connect with students is a testament to his young-at-heart attitude and genuine concern for students. He also works very well with faculty and staff members from all over campus, showing an attitude of respect and collaboration that is very appreciated.
Murray began working at NIC in 1971 as a biology instructor and later became the Natural Sciences division chair. He was instrumental in finalizing the vision of the Meyer Health and Sciences building, has been a member of the Curriculum Council for generations, and too numerous committees to count. Murray has always gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure a student has a good experience at NIC – whether it’s making sure they are on the right track, correcting a mistake, or communicating in a way that eases tension with all.
