Staff Assembly Meeting Minutes

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. by Alex Harris, Chair.
Approval of Minutes
It was moved and seconded to approve the May, 2010 meeting minutes.
Introduction of New Employees:
Melissa Jessen from IT introduced Tammy Young, Sr. Systems Analyst/Programmer. Chantel Black from the Registrar’s Office introduced Tammie Iverson, Student Records Technician and Marcy Hoggatt, Sr. Records Specialist.
Garry Stark introduced Kim Rogstad, Groundskeeper.
Erin Weech from Center for Educational Access introduced Barb Long, Asst. C-Print Captionist.
Ron Dorn, new vice president of resource management, was invited to the meeting to tell use a little about himself. He started at NIC the first of August replacing Rolly Jurgen who retired this summer. Ron has more than 35 years experience working with finances at various colleges and universities, most recently as the vice president for administration and finance at Minot State University in North Dakota.
Committee Assignments ~ Alex explained that he had contacted staff members to see if they plan on serving on the same committee(s) as last year. Once all the responses are in, the Staff Assembly Executive Committee will send out a list of available committee positions asking for volunteers.
Wellness ~ Andrea Woempner, Benefits Specialist, came to give an overview of the Wellness Program. She explained that the Wellness Program is available to all employees who are enrolled in the health insurance. The wellness program provides you with ways to earn money that can be used to offset healthcare costs. Below is an overview of the required activities for your incentives.
The following must be completed and documentation submitted by December 15th, 2010:
Health Profile $100
Annual Dental Exam $100
Annual Physical Exam $100
Tobacco Use $200
Fitness (Fall semester) $100
Fitness (Spring semester) The Spring Semester fitness documentation must be submitted by May 14th to get credit. $100
Total Package Premium $300
TOTAL VALUE-Individual $1,000
TOTAL VALUE-Family $2,000
Incentives will be awarded to your health reimbursement account (HRA) on the specified dates once you have submitted your documentation of steps achieved. Incentives will be deposited three times during the year. Accounts will be updated between:
• October 1, 2010 – October 15, 2010 (for all documentation submitted prior to Sept. 30th)
• January 3, 2011 – January 14, 2011 (for all documentation submitted prior to Dec. 15th)
• May 16, 2011 – June 3, 2011 (for all documentation submitted by May 15th. Applies only to the spring fitness requirements)
Andrea reported that Advance Benefits Management is now Peak1 Administration. Beginning on October 1, 2010, the old site, mybenefits247.com, will automatically redirect you to the new site.
She also announced the Wellness Fair is scheduled for October 14 in the Lake CDA Room.
Board of Trustees - Alex Harris reported on the BOT meeting. Items discussed:

• Kootenai Technical Education Campus (KTEC) ~John Martin
• Education Corridor ~Christie Wood
• Vice President for Student Services Position ~Priscilla Bell
• Department of Public Works Requests ~Priscilla Bell
Senate Update - Erin Norvell, Senate chair, reported that the senate has been busy working on faculty employment policies and procedures:
• Policy/Procedure #3.02.31 Suspension of Tenured Faculty
• Policy/Procedure #3.02.30 Remediation of Tenured Faculty
• Policy/Procedure #3.02.32 Termination of Tenured Faculty for Cause
Wellness Committee – Chantel Black, Wellness Committee chair, invited everyone to join NIC’s 2nd Annual Race for the Cure team. All family and friends are welcome to join the team. Employees and spouses who join by Sept. 10 will receive an NIC Cardinals Against Cancer shirt to wear on race day.
Good for the Order:
Scott Moorcroft, Men’s Soccer Coach, spoke to the assembly about supporting NIC athletics by joining the NIC Booster Club.
Garry Stark gave an update on Facilities Operation projects. The Seiter Hall remodel for all intents and purposes is complete. In conjunction, work will begin soon on the new plaza being constructed behind Lee-Kildow Hall. This project is being funded by the state to improve pedestrian and motor vehicle safety, increase campus green space, and enhance access to the NIC Children’s Center. Most portables placed on the former DeArmond Mill site have been removed so that a temporary parking lot, bringing an additional 380 parking spaces to campus, can be installed.
