Staff Assembly Meeting Minutes

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 3:00 p.m. by Erin Norvell, Vice Chair.
Approval of Minutes
The minutes from the September 9, 2010 meeting were approved.
Introduction of New Employees
Hiedi Schrader introduced new WFTC employees:
Michelle Lewis, Customer Service Representative.
Teresa Henderson, Custom Service Representative.
Congratulations to Terry Cruz who is now Sr. Administrative Assistant at WFTC.
Erin Norvell introduced Sheldon Nord, Vice President of Student Services.
Sheldon graduated from Corban College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in social science. He received his master’s degree in college student services administration from Oregon State University and his doctorate in higher education from Indiana University. His most recent position was from 2007 to 2010 as CEO of Universitas Pelita Harapan in Indonesia. He also worked in student services at four institutions, including Weber State and Eastern Oregon University. He served as dean and vice president for student affairs at Oregon Institute of Technology from 1997 to 2002 and previously served in a variety of roles at Indiana University and Corban College.
Mike Mires, Dean of Professional, Technical & Workforce Education, gave us an overview of the organization of Workforce Training Center. The organization looks like this:
- Qualified Worker Retraining Program – Judy Boyce, Coordinator
- Workforce and Community Education – Beverly Hawker, Coordinator
- Customize Training – Colleen Hoffman, Coordinator
- ISBDC (Small Business Development) – Bill Jhung, Regional Director
- Workforce & Community Education/Qualified Worker Retraining Program, Marie Price, Director
- Apprenticeship – Peggy Schnell, Coordinator
Employee Day Committee – Karen Hubbard, Chair, reported that Employee Day is scheduled for February 22, 2011. The committee met for the first time yesterday, October 13. Committee staff representatives are:
- Hiedi Schrader – WFTC
- Lynn Covey – VPSS office
- Heather Erikson – Student Activities
- Bill McElver – Facilities Operations
- Lynn Hill – Communication and Marketing
Staff Sabbatical Committee – Erin Norvell explained that a committee has been put together to develop a staff sabbatical policy and procedure. The intent is for staff members to have an opportunity for a sabbatical leave similar to the one afforded faculty members. The committee has a working rough draft of a policy/procedure and will be meeting the week of October 25. More information on the policy/procedure will be available as the committee gets closer to a final draft.
Education Corridor – Garry Stark showed a three minute video of the proposed infrastructure of the Education Corridor.
Smoking Policy – Garry reported that the smoking policy has support from ASNIC and the committee will be getting together on Wednesday, October 20 to work on the policy and procedure.
Board of Trustees - Erin Norvell shared the agenda from the September 22nd Board meeting.

- Official Fall Enrollment Report - Sheldon Nord
- Kootenai Technical Education Campus (KTEC) - Jay Lee
- Education Corridor - Mic Armon/John Martin
Senate – Erin Norvell reported that the Senate has been working on faculty policies/procedures:
- Termination of Tenured Faculty for Cause Policy/Procedure – 3.02.32
- Tenure Policy/Procedure – 3.02.09
Good of the Order
The Cardinal Leaders in the Community (CLIC) group is holding a raffle for a reserved parking spot in front of the gym for the month of November that is open to students, staff, and faculty. Tickets are on sale and a winner will be drawn on Nov. 1. Tickets are $1 per ticket or six tickets for $5. The money is being raised for the club, which gives back to the community. Tickets can be purchased from CLIC member’s everyday at noon in the SUB, from ASNIC Senator Nick Dimico in the ASNIC Senate Office at Ext. 7845 or volunteeringcardinals@ gmail.com, or from Heather Erikson at Ext. 5459.
Chantel Black reported that the Registrar’s office will be decorated as a haunted speak easy and invited everyone to stop by on October 29.
