Introducing Mark Browning, VP of Community Relations & Marketing

Mark Browning is NIC’s new Vice President of Community Relations and Marketing.  Mark joined NIC in January of this year.  Mark is originally from Stevensville, Montana.  He attended Idaho State University as a non-traditional student.  Mark spent many years working broadcast journalism, with time spent as a weekend weatherman and eventually the news director at CBS in Boise.  For the last five years Mark has worked at the Idaho State Board of Education, where he was the chief communications and legislative officer.  Mark said he is very impressed with NIC and his staff in Community Relations.  He reminded Staff Assembly that if we know of good things happening at NIC, his department wants to know that.  Mark and his wife Kym have three boys and their family is looking forward to living in Coeur d’Alene.

Employee Day

Employee Day is scheduled for February 21st.  There will be a keynote speaker this year, followed by two sessions of workshops.  Workshops are listed on the webpage; some will require pre-registration.  The afternoon time is designated for departmental activities.

Employee Giving Campaign

Katie Elwell and Pam Noah gave us an overview of the Employee Giving Campaign.  In the first week we met our number from last year and doubled giving from four years ago.  Over $55,000 was raised last year from the Employee Giving Campaign.  Please go online and register your support; even if you don’t make a donation, you increase our participation numbers, and you will be eligible for prizes.   You only need to complete the form once.  Please be an advocate in your area to help increase participation.

Senate Update

The IT policy is currently under discussion; this consists of technology use and e-mail use.  We are essentially formalizing our current process rather than implementing any changes.

Presidential Search Update

Jon Totten gave us an update on the Presidential Search Committee.   At this time the committee has put together a presidential profile, which can be viewed on the web at http://www.nic.edu/presidentialSearch/presidentialProfile.pdf.

Please take a look at that and feel free to send Jon an e-mail, letting him know what qualities are most important to you.  The committee’s next step will be to review applications and by March 8th select semi-final candidates for preliminary interviews, which are scheduled to take place March 21st and 22nd.

Staff Sabbatical Policy

Garry Stark reported that while Alex was unable to give us an update, he did send an e-mail update that this was scheduled to go forward for consideration.
