Parents,

Your son or daughter will soon complete their first year of college. What should you expect regarding billing and notification of payment deadlines for the future?

You may have noticed that you, the parent, did not receive a bill for the semester. They are mailed to the student. Students may view their statement by using NICOnline or request a statement using our e-mail address: business_office@nic.edu. All requests will be mail to the address on record.

When classes are in session, all correspondence is mailed to the students’ local address. Students need to take an active role in understanding their financial responsibility and to stay informed at all times of their current status and future registrations. We want you to assist them as needed, but it’s important to let them learn how to deal with financial responsibilities and meeting any deadlines.

North Idaho College adheres to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), that provides students with privacy rights pertaining to their educational records. Certain information may only be accessed by the student. Security measures are in place to ensure that student privacy rights are protected.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. Official student records are kept in six offices: Registrar, Student Services, Business Office, Financial Aid, Residence Hall and Health Center. Information on students, therefore, may be two general kinds: academic (registered attendance, courses taken, probation or suspension, grades, degree programs), and personal (financial statement, age, address, telephone #, disciplinary, and medical records).

FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Students to whom the rights have transferred are eligible students.
