1. What instructional technology equipment can I expect in an IVC room?
A. An Instructor Teaching Desk or Podium with:
-PC computer
-Microsoft Office Suite installed (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
-Internet access
-Document camera
-VHS and CD/DVD playback capabilities
-Display capabilities from above sources by video projectors or TVs
-Additional video projectors and/or TVs to show the remote sites plus what is being broadcast
-Backup recording of class in case of videoconferencing failure
Additional needs may be addressed. Please contact the Video Manager at ext. 3244
A. Training is necessary in order for you to understand how the IVC equipment is set up. Taking advantage of the training will help minimize technical difficulty and allow you to teach your class without distraction.
3.How and when can faculty arrange for IVC training?
A. It is best not to delay IVC training. Contact the IVC Services Coordinator at 769-3244 as soon as you know you are scheduled to teach a class by IVC..
4. Is technical support available at distant sites?
A. Yes. Each distant site has a trained facilitator on duty to establish and monitor the video connection for the class, distribute class materials, and proctor tests.
5. What should instructors do if they have equipment problems?
A. If class is in session, notify the facilitator. He or she will notify the IIVC Services Coordinator and fax a trouble report. If the concern does not affect the class immediately, contact the IVC Services Coordinator at 769-3244 as soon as possible after the affected class.
6. What if I am having difficulties getting the cooperation I need from a facilitator even after I've tried to reach resolution myself?
We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of individuals who provide support for us at distant sites, but in the event you have a problem with or are concerned with your facilitator, contact the IVC Services Coordinator at 769-3244.
7. What is the purpose of recording class sessions?
Class sessions are recording to provide a backup in the event a connection is badly degraded or lost. If technical difficulties do arise, the instructor needs to call the IVC Services Coordinator (769-3244) or leave a voice mail message at the end of class so it will be known that DVDs need to be sent to students at a distant site; otherwise, the recording may be erased. Recordings are not provided without a request from the instructor.
8. Can instructors get a copy of a class recording?
Yes, an instructor can, on occasion, get one copy of a class recording. This request needs to be made prior to the beginning of class. If no request is received, the recording is erased after class.
9. How do instructors get materials back and forth between campus and the other site(s)?
Addressed (not postage-paid) envelopes are provided to instructors before the start of each term and during the term as needed. Instructors should contact their division assistant for an account code to pay for postage.
Mail sent to and from distant centers is sent via UPS several times a week. Use an inter-departmental envelope and put the envelope in an outgoing campus mail basket. Materials that are time-sensitive should have a "Time-Sensitive Materials" label attached to the face of the envelope. These labels are available from the IVC Services Coordinator and the Office of eLearning and Outreach. When additional mailing materials are needed, contact the IVC Network Manager at 769-3244.
10. How can NIC faculty or staff schedule the use of IVC equipment and rooms?
Contact the IVC Engineer (769-7855) at least 10 days prior to the event to allow time for setup and testing.
