Use the spine, style, and concept to help identify elements that relate to your group’s vision of the play.

Find pictures or artwork that begins to capture the feel of what the characters might wear.  Think about fabrics here – which colors feel right?  Which fabrics have weights and textures that feel right?  Use the spine, style, and concept to help identify elements that relate to your group’s vision of the play.

Check the sketches, coordinating with the director regarding spine, style, and concept.  Does your design feel like it helps tell the story?  What sort of movement patterns does your design begin to create?  Do they feel right?

Draw a color rendering of what the set will look like (or build a model if that would be of interest to you)

Draw color renderings of the two costumes (or find some other way of communicating what your designs will look like).  Note which fabrics would be used.

* Keep in mind: the furnishings and clothing styles of the characters may not be up to date due to economic position of the characters.  You may need to research back 5 or 10 years.  If you’re designing scenery, think about how new the house or the setting is (if it’s set at a structure built by people).  The building(s) and its/their construction may be several decades older than the furnishings.

You will write a one page paper describing your process and explaining your choices.
