  NIC Information Technology
Initiatives, 2003-2004

Each year (since 2002) a list of NIC IT initiatives is derived from the College's Technology Plan.  This particular plan includes 56 total  recommendations that were developed by NIC's Technology Master Planning Committee in November 2001, as a result of the College's Strategic Planning (1999-2002).

The following are NIC "Information Technology Initiatives" for 2003-04:

#1:  Obtain and begin implementing Datatel's integrated, web-accessible college-wide student information system including administrative and course-management functions able to summarize information directly to students, staff, faculty and administrators.

#2:  Complete Phase 3 of the campus network infrastructure upgrade with an emphasis on network management, security and wireless access.

#3:  Develop technology training on network, telephone, voicemail and email basics for new hires at NIC.

#4:  Continue cooperation between IMS and Instructional Computing to create and maintain standardized classroom presentation environments.

#5:  Establish and maintain equipment replacement schedules with adequate and consistent funding.

#6:  Continue to participate on both Idanet and the Avista Possibilities Network to bring the benefits of high-speed converged voice, data and video networking among higher education institutions.

#7:  Establish an online testing center for placement and makeup testing.

#8:  Continue working with the Office of Institutional Research on the creation of an institutional data warehouse.  Define information flows and access to information.
