Administrative
Computing Goals, 2001-02
#1: Develop systems to enable the entire campus to conduct service activities for students via the Internet. Define and extend technology projects that can be invested in to achieve these service directions. #2: Simplify, standardize, and routinize basic service activities (e.g. phone services, account charges, etc.) so that more staff time is available for institutionally planned and prioritized projects. #3: Increase the knowledge of technology support staff about "building block" technology (e.g. operating systems, databases, new languages, etc.) through training. Work with employees to assist them in obtaining their certifications. #4: Obtain direction from senior and departmental management on the desirability of unifying the campus management information systems software structure for improved reporting, simplified maintenance, and improved ease-of-use. #5: Conduct an average of three (3) trainings per month to help campus computer users better utilize the software and hardware provided to them. Communications Goals, 2001-02 #1: If funded, implement an upgrade of the campus PBX to improve voicemail maintainability, extend telephone service to new users, and update the software feature set. #2: Reduce the time to completion for requests for extension of the campus copper and fiber cable plant after obtaining resources. #3: Develop a high-speed network infrastructure to enable converged voice, data, and video uses. Include 100 mbps service between nodes, adequate wire plant and server performance, and increased Internet bandwidth if funded as a strategic capital improvement. #4: Improve the time availability of staff to work with campus technology planners, consultants, vendors, and users of campus technology when making outsourcing decisions. Instructional Computing Goals, 2001-02 #1: Purchase and install PC's for twenty (20) faculty to improve their computing capabilities. Resite older computers to P/T faculty if useable. #2: Review and revise existing Service Level Agreements (SLA's) for campus computer classrooms and laboratory facilities. Create an annual calendar for working with Division Chairs on SLA for all of the facilities on campus. #3: Define the partnership between eLearning, Learning Resources, Workforce Training, and other departments, which have technical support providers as part of their team. Work to extend needed services to these partners. Computer Lab Goals, 2001-02 #1: Scope, define, acquire, and implement a "Pay for Print" capability for the Computer Labs to enable various printing services for those willing to pay. #2: Add a color printing capability to the Labs. #3: Upgrade computers in Bay 3 (Macintoshes) and Bay 4 (Windows) to improve speed to students using the Labs. Resite these computers to improve the computing capabilities of faculty and staff across campus. #4: Convene a Faculty/Student Advisory Board for the Labs and convene quarterly meetings to get input and feedback on Lab services and policies.
