Administrative
Computing Goals, 2002-03
#1 - Administrative Systems
Integration:
Define and
coordinate activities to implement an integrated institutional software
system capable of providing process and reporting improvements.
Personalized web-based information for students should be maintained for
their convenience.
#2 - Institutional Data
Warehouse:
Continue assistance
to the Office of Planning and Assessment on the creation of a college
data warehouse. Define information flow between new student
information systems modules and warehouse. Identify report writing
software and staff training necessary to process and utilize
information.
#3 - Customer Service
Initiatives:
Assist
administrative information and computing users by furthering the five
(5) customer service initiatives adopted Spring 2002.
#4 - Remote Support of Users:
To speed and
improve assistance to computer users, a "remote support"
approach will be researched, adopted, and implemented by a
cross-departmental Computer Services team.
Communications Goals, 2002-03
#1 - Network Refresh:
Complete Phase 2 of
the campus network infrastructure upgrade to develop 100 mbps service
between campus nodes. Improve and extend wire plant and research
the addition of wireless services. When funded, select and deploy
network management tools.
#2 - Idanet:
Continue to
participate with the State Board of Education and other state agencies
to obtain the benefits of a statewide network for converged voice,
video, and data. Initial benefits to NIC community would be
redundant paths and increased bandwidth to the Internet.
#3 - Reliability and
Redundancy:
Review all mission
critical servers and circuits to incorporate redundancy. Improve
reliability by employing network management tools to track, monitor, and
maintain network performance, security, and operation. Develop a
simple Disaster Recovery Plan for the Siebert Computer Center to be used
as a model for the other communications/computing rooms.
#4 - Equipment Replacement
Schedule:
Develop an
equipment replacement schedule for servers, network communications
devices, voice switches, and related equipment in the college's four (4)
communications rooms.
Instructional Computing Goals, 2002-03
#1 - Classroom Service
Coordination:
In conjunction with other NIC information technology support units,
develop an informational campaign to clarify to division chairs and
instructors the services available from Instructional Computing, the
Help Desk, Instructional Media Services, eLearning, and other
providers.
#2 - Classroom Technology
Inventory:
Create a
comprehensive, updateable inventory of classroom information technology
available in college classrooms to aid planning for instructional use
and replacement. Enlist the cooperation of all divisions prior to
the inventory creation.
#3 - Customer Service
Initiatives:
Assist
instructional information and computing users by furthering the five (5)
customer service initiatives adopted Spring 2002.
#4 - Wireless Research:
Research the use of
wireless applications in higher education for the purpose of developing
pilot projects in conjunction with college educational divisions.
Coordinate with Networking and Systems group on the planning.
#5 - Student Advisory Board:
Extend the scope of
the Student Advisory Board for the Computer Labs to obtain comment on
technology use by students throughout the college.
Computer Lab Goals, 2002-03
#1 - Printing
Benefits/Efficiency:
Implement the
"collection" phase of the Pay-For-Print project to obtain
revenue to offset the growth of printing costs. Encourage student
education-related printing. Continue to coordinate policies with
the Lab's Student Advisory Board and the Library's policies so that
benefits are understandable to everyone.
#2 - Replacement Equipment:
Improve PC
performance in Bay 4 and LCC 235 by maintaining the computer replacement
schedule in the Molstead Computer Lab. Resite existing computers
in Business classroom LCC 235 to improve instruction there.
Replace one of the Lab's oldest 5si printers.
#3 - Student Advisory Board:
Convene and conduct
regular meetings of the newly created Student Advisory Board for the
Labs to gather service improvement suggestions and feedback on policies.
Extend topics to broader student computing use. Coordinate with
college staff responsible for managing the facility.
#4 - Customer Service
Initiatives:
Assist student and
faculty lab computer users by furthering the five (5) customer service
initiatives adopted Spring 2002.
