Departmental Goals, 2005-2006
Administrative Computing Goals, 2005-2006

#1:  Continue the transition to new NICOnline information services for students and improved information summaries via the upgraded Datatel Colleague system.

#2:  Extend technology training for staff on network, telephone, voicemail, email and software basics.

#3:  Plan, create and develop a portal system allowing the benefits of single sign-on, role-based information access, customization and ease of use for students and staff.

#4:  Simplify both service and infrastructure management through the combination of outsourcing and increased professional development for IT support personnel.

#5:  Select and adopt components for NIC's application development environment for vendor, student and staff contributed systems.

Communications Goals, 2005-2006

#1:  Improve network and systems security via consultation, best practice adoption, software acquisition and standards creation. Secure and simplify directory systems. Ensure adequate staff or reallocate staff resources.

#2:  Plan. Acquire and implement all communications infrastructures for the Ramsey Professional Technical Building and Bonner's Ferry Center.

#3:  Develop a transition plan to replace the voice switch (PBX) and bring the benefits of IP telephony to all campus voice communications. Define architectural direction in preparation for FY07 budgeting.

#4:  Provision network to new IVC rooms in the Health Science Building and at campus extension centers. Continue to support the integration of the IVC bridge into the IP network.

#5:  Continue wireless infrastructure rollout per plan.

Computer Lab Goals, 2005-2006

#1:  Support the expansion of hybrid and Internet courses by ensuring adequate access to WebCT Vista and other software for NIC students.

#2:  Publish lab usage statistics on a Computer Lab webpage.

#3:  Replace the aging ID card system to produce new ID cards for all students.

#4:  Improve services for students accompanied by family members.

#5:  Train 66% of Molstead Computer Lab student employees using LearnKey and other online training sources.

Instructional Computing Goals, 2005-2006

#1:  Develop and continue instructional computing support for program initiatives at the Health Sciences building, Ramsey Technical Building and Bonner's Ferry Center.

#2:  Publish the wireless rollout plan and extend secure wireless network access in classrooms, labs and public areas on campus for instructional computing uses.

#3:  Extend the ability to utilize digital multimedia in college classrooms and labs including streaming video projects.

#4:  Conduct trainings for faculty on classroom presentation technologies via workshops in the Employee Learning Facility (ELF).

#5:  Support the designation of campus classrooms with IT at levels as outlined with Instructional Media Services.

#6:  Participate in at least two (2) projects with partner institutions over the Avista Virtual Possibilities Network (VPNet) to obtain the benefits of high-speed voice, data and video networking.
