Windows Vista

Microsoft's latest Windows operating system, Windows Vista, is currently undergoing testing and evaluation. There are many editions and versions of the operating system and each must be evaluated and tested for integration and compatibility into the NIC computing environment.

The basic timeline for implementation is as follows:

November06 through Mid-summer07: Pre-planning and testing of both the 32bit and 64bit versions of Vista, all releases.

Late Summer07: Installation of selected Vista release in limited teaching computer labs, to be ready for Fall semester. Early indications are that it will be the 32bit version of Vista Enterprise.

Fall through Winter07: User test bed. After the semester is underway and we have learned how Vista acts and reacts in our instructional environment, we would enlist some end users to work out the details of Vista in the office environment.

Spring08: College adoption of Vista as a supported Operating System.

Please feel free to contact the Kraig Lytle, Coordinator of Analysis and Research, with questions or comments.

Office 2007

The latest Office suite is being tied to the Windows Vista implementation timeline. It is currently undergoing compatibility testing and will be ready for implementation in the Spring of 08. Exceptions will be made for Instructional areas that need to teach this application.
