Fundamentals for Writing

English 099 provides writing instruction that focuses on fluency, development, organization, revision, and editing/proofreading. As a part of this course, students will practice reading actively and critically, engaaging in dialogues with texts, drafting essays in a format appropriate to purpose and audience, and utilizing a process approach to writing. A grade of C- or above allows the student to enroll in ENGL-101. Lecture: 3 hours per week
Prerequisites:
Complete ENGL-045 with a minimum grade of C- or have an appropriate test score: COMPASS E-Write <6, COMPASS Writing <68, ACT < 18, or SAT Verbal < 450.
ENGL-099A
Fundamentals for Writing

ENGL-099 provides writing instruction that focuses on fluency, development, organization, revision, and editing/proofreading. As a part of this course, students will practice reading actively and critically, engaging in dialogues with texts, drafting essays in a format appropriate to purpose and audience, and utilizing a process approach to writing. ENGL-099A is the first credit of the three-credit course. Students who demonstrate high achievement will have the opportunity to complete English department assessments and a standardized placement test that could qualify them to move on early to ENGL-101. Lecture: 3 hours per week

By permission of the English department chair and either a minimum grade of C- in ENGL-045 or appropriate test scores: COMPASS E-Write <6, COMPASS Writing <68, ACT <18, or SAT Verbal <450
