General Questions

Q: How do I apply for a position with North Idaho College?
A: At this time, there are two ways you might apply for a position with North Idaho College. It will depend on the recruitment number associated with the job you are interested in. The recruitment number is found by clicking on the job you are interested in, and the recruitment number is listed under the ‘job description’ link. Once you know the recruitment number, please see the “How to Apply” on our left hand menu.

Q: If I have applied before, do I need to apply again for a different job?
A: Yes.  However, the on-line application system will solve much of the repeat application information.

Q: If I want to apply for more than one position, what do I do?
A: If you are applying for a job with recruitment number 08- (i.e. 08-112), 09-001, 09-002, 09-003, or 09-004, you will need to submit all new materials via mail, fax, or by dropping your packet off.  If you are applying online, your profile will be saved and you will simply need to upload new documents for each position you are interested in.

Q: What are you office hours?
A: Monday through Thursday: 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Q: Can I apply for a position that is not listed?
A: NIC only accepts applications for jobs that are currently listed. Unsolicited applications for non-specific employment are shredded.

Q: Can I submit a resume for your files?
A: NIC only accepts resumes for jobs that are currently listed. Unsolicited resumes for non-specific employment are shredded.

Q: If I am called for an interview, will my travel expenses be covered?
A: Travel reimbursement is limited to certain instances. Be sure to ask before you accept the interview.

Q: If I am hired, will my moving expenses be covered?
A: There are certain incidences for which expenses for moving are paid. Be sure to ask before you accept the position.

Q: How do I know the status of my application?
A: Once a position has closed, you can find it through the “Status of Closed Positions” link on the left hand menu. We make every effort to ensure that this is updated as we get information from the departments doing the hiring. If you are unsure if the status is current, please call the Human Resources office at 208-769-3304 to inquire.

Q: The application won’t download properly – what should I do?
A: Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to download our application. If you would prefer a hard copy contact our office and we can either mail or fax one to you. Remember, the paper application is only required if you are applying for a job with recruitment number 08- (i.e. 08-112), 09-001, 09-002, 09-003, or 09-004.

Q: What if I am missing a required application item?
A: Your paper application packet will not be forwarded to the recruiting department unless it is complete. Please check the position announcement against your materials to be sure your packet is complete.

Q: Can I e-mail my application materials?
A: You may e-mail any required application materials that do not require a signature. Please keep in mind that the NIC Application Form and any required supplemental forms must contain your signature in order to be considered.

Q: How do I know if a faxed application was received?

Q: Can I get a copy of something I submitted with my application?
A: No. All documents submitted as part of your application packet become the property of the college and will not be returned or copied by the college.

Q: If I want to apply for more than one position, what do I do?
A: You must submit a separate, complete application packet for each position that interests you. You are welcome to photocopy your application materials, however the Human Resources office is not allowed to do so for you.

Q: Is the on-line system secure?
A: Yes. The online application system, Consensus®, is powered by HigherEdDecisions, a third party vendor who maintains a secure, online environment to house the application and uploaded information.

Q: Do I have to apply on-line?
A: Yes – for any job with recruitment number 09-005 or higher, you must use the on-line application system.

Q: Do I need to have an e-mail address?
A: E-mail is not required, but it is highly recommended. The Human Resources office utilizes e-mail as a primary  method for communications with applicants, because it allows us to communicate more quickly and efficiently. There are several free e-mail domains (Hotmail, Yahoo, Google, etc) where you can quickly set up an e-mail account to utilize for your application process.

Q: Can I submit my resume/cover letter/references/transcripts/etc. through the on-line system?
A: Yes - there are four fields where you can upload items for your application.

Q: If I want to apply for more than one position, what do I do?
A: Simply click on the “Application Information” link at the bottom of the job announcement on our website to be taken to the online system. Once you login to the online system, just click on the vacancy you are interested in. Once you complete that application, you can click on another vacancy to apply for a different position.
