Select sessions for Employee Day event
The session schedule for Employee Day Friday, Dec. 11 is now available. The day is focused on professional, personal, and practical development for NIC employees and includes time for employees to attend two development sessions.
All employees are encouraged to attend the Employee Day welcome at 8 a.m. in Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center with refreshments following in the Boswell Hall lobby at 8:15 a.m. While no registration is required, employees are encouraged to view the session program and determine which two sessions to attend. Some sessions are offered at 8:45 a.m. and others at 10:15 a.m.; some will be offered during both session 1 and session 2, so plan your schedule accordingly.
There is no registration required. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis and many of the sessions have caps due to space limitations. Be sure to sign in at each session to be entered into a raffle to win one of 50 prizes, including the grand prize reserved parking space for spring semester.
The day will wrap up with department/division development activities from 11:30 a.m. until the end of the day.

From the President's Office
NIC is planning a special Employee Day Friday, Dec. 11. This is in response to recommendations from the previous employee opinion surveys to provide more opportunities to interact, learn, and have fun as a college community. Employee Day is designed for faculty and staff to take a “time out” from normal activities. There will be opportunities for individuals to attend workshops on topics of personal interest and for divisions and departments to conduct training.
To facilitate Employee Day, all normal college activities will be shut down in order to provide an opportunity for all staff and faculty to participate (with the exception of limited food services and the Children’s Center). Friday, Dec. 11 was previously designated as “Curriculum Day” so no classes were to be held anyway. We ask that all supervisors fully support us in making this day a success and adjust schedules to accommodate this opportunity.
A committee of both faculty and staff are currently meeting to plan and organize the events. Thank you to committee members Paul Chivvis, Gary Coffman, Lynn Covey, Kathleen Czurda-Page, Karen Hubbard, Heather Erikson, Jessica Johanson, Bill McElver, Denise Moore, and Deb O’Dell. We are excited for our first-ever Employee Day. I am confident that this will be a valuable learning and interacting experience with your colleagues throughout the day.- Priscilla
Mark calendars for Employee Day
The new Employee Day event, which was originally called Professional Development Day, is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11. This event does not replace the professional development event held during convocations week and is being organized by a committee of staff and faculty in response to results of the employee opinion survey.
The day is focused on professional, personal, and practical development for NIC employees. The schedule listed on this site is different than the tentative schedule that was communicated earlier in the year.
A total of 18 sessions will be available for employees to choose from for the morning sessions. The afternoon is reserved for activities to be designed for departments and divisions. Examples include community volunteerism and team building exercises.
Mark your calendars for the Dec. 11 event. More details will follow in the Week’s Worth and NICToday.
