Searching the database is similar to searching the Internet.  There is a box to enter the key terms of your search and a button to launch the search.  However, the periodical databases search page gives you more options to limit your search in order to make your search very precise and the items you are searching for are fewer and much better organized.

One of the most important limits you can put on your search is to limit to "Scholarly Journals".  These types of articles are also refered to as professional, peer-reviewed, refereed, or academic journals as well.  Many instructors require a certain number of these types of articles for your research projects.
