Best of the Web

Do you search the Internet only to find millions of pages that are unrelated to your topic?
Then it is time to start using web directories. Let other people do the searching for you and save your eyes!

There are many different web directories on the Internet (like Yahoo!, for instance) that "collect" web sites and organize them for a variety of purposes. Some want you to find easy shopping or other specialized information. Below, you will find links to web directories that collect web sites that contain authoritative and up to date information for the purposes of research of every type. It is especially useful for students seeking Internet sources for their various projects.

The directory below roughly corresponds to the curriculum in the NIC catalog. All the links point to the appropriate page within another directory called the Open Directory Project. This directory, and others, are created and maintained by a combination of experts and volunteers. You will also find, on this page, links to other directories of which one is compiled by librarians (LII.org), another by librarians and library science student volunteers (IPL.org), and another simply by subect expert/hobbyist volunteers (About.com).

Enjoy!

Try one of these great web directories!
