  • NIC to honor nurses during Nurses’ Day

    Bernice Wright knew from a young age that she wanted to become a nurse. “Initially, I thought the uniforms were cute,” said Wright, adding that later she grew to understand that she had a passion for helping people and that being a nurse was what she was meant to do. Wright earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing and over the next 50 years, she served as a nurse working in rural community hospitals, a children’s hospital, as a public health nurse serving 13 villages in Alaska and even establishing a public health agency in Wyoming. After years of serving her profession, Wright decided to give back to the profession by teaching.

  • NIC to host weekend concerts in honor of Mother’s Day

    North Idaho College’s musical and choral groups will join forces to present a weekend of music for moms in honor of Mother’s Day. The jazz concert “Steppin’ Out with My Baby… A Date Night for Moms” will be at 7:30 p.m.

  • College to kick off Xplor NIC program

    North Idaho College will host nearly 3,000 sixth, eighth and 10th graders this month as it reaches out to middle and high schoolers during a new outreach program called Xplor NIC. The three-part college recruitment program is aimed at exposing students to the college’s programs and services at a young age and subsequently following up by meeting with them through the middle of their high school years. “We want to show students the benefits of attending college while they’re still forming their opinions,” said NIC President Priscilla Bell.

    The North Idaho College Idaho Small Business Development Center recently won several state awards at the tri-state Small Business Development Center conference in Boise.

  • NIC presents girls’ summer basketball camp

    North Idaho College women’s basketball coaches and players will lead a weeklong girls’ basketball camp June 9-12 to help participants improve their basketball skills.

  • NIC to sponsor fourth annual North Idaho adventure race

    North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuits will sponsor the fourth annual NIChallenge, an adventure race Saturday, May 31 in Coeur d’Alene (the exact location will be announced later). This is the only race of its kind held in North Idaho. “Each year we have a new group of people that are seeking fun and adventure,” said Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator Paul Chivvis.

  • Outdoor Pursuits to offer backpacking light workshop, hike

    North Idaho College’s Outdoor Pursuits will offer a workshop and weekend hike to teach participants lightweight backpacking techniques. The workshop and hike will be led by Senior Editor of Backpacking Light Magazine Mike Martin. During the classroom portion, Martin will cover lightweight clothing, shelter, sleep, packing, hydration and cooking systems that will decrease most packs from 40 or 50 pounds to approximately 10 pounds.

    After posting a 22-10 season and competing in the Region 18 championship game, several Lady Cardinals were recognized by Scenic West Athletic Conference coaches for their efforts this past season.
