WOMEN'S SOCCER: NIC claims two wins on Linford's five-goal weekend
10/11/2009
Playing at home for the first time in a month was just what Lauren Linford and the North Idaho College Cardinals needed. The Lady Cards put up 14 goals, Linford scoring five in two games and came away with two much needed wins.
The Friday, Oct. 9 game pitted NIC against Western Wyoming Community College. In their first meeting of the year in Rock Springs, Wyo., NIC was able to struggle to a win on an overtime goal, but no overtime was needed in this game. The Cardinals exploded with five goals in the first half and tallied three more in the second period. Linford got a "hat trick" (three goals), Brittany Cook also scored three goals and Justine Bowman was just one goal short of her own "hat trick" net two goals.
Sunday's game had the Lady Cardinals facing the Gonzaga University Club team. NIC had a good start in this game as well scoring four goals in the first half and finishing off the Bulldogs with two more goals in the second half. Linford notched two goals in this game and Cook had one more.
The home cooking was also good for Aly Houghton who served up four assists in the two games and created more scoring chances for her teammates.
The Cardinals record is now 5-5-4. They face Salt Lake Community College on Saturday, Oct. 17 at noon.
