NIC men’s basketball ranked fifth in NJCAA poll

The North Idaho College men’s basketball team was ranked fifth in the nation by the National Junior College Athletic Association poll released Oct. 26.
NIC won the Scenic West Athletic Conference last year and finished the season with a 27-4 overall record.
NIC will return two starters and six players overall from last season. Renado Parker from Seattle, Wash., was a first team All-American last season and posted 15.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Parker was also mentioned as a top five player in the country in a recent Sporting News Magazine poll. The Cardinals also return starter Guy-Marc Michel from Sainte Marie, Martinique who contributed 8.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game last year.
A new addition to the NIC roster this year is Idell Bell from Lakeland, Fla., who played the 2007-2008 season at Brevard Community College in Florida and averaged 20.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Bell entered last season as a third team preseason All-American before deciding to redshirt and transfer to North Idaho College.
The NIC men’s basketball team will take on Community Colleges of Spokane in an exhibition game at Colville High School in Washington at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. The Cardinals home opener will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 versus the Spokane Athletics All-Stars.
