WOMEN'S GOLF: 13th-ranked Lady Cardinals fall to LCSC

The latest National Junior College Athletic Association polls have NIC ranked 13th in the nation. Last year they finished 15th at the national tournament. This year they hope to improve on that placing, but they have some work ahead of them, according to NIC Head Golf Coach Randy Boswell.
The Lady Cardinals were outmatched by the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors in a dual match on April 9 at Quail Ridge in Clarkston, Wash. The Warriors, who are ranked 21st in the latest NAIA polls, proved to be too much for the short-handed Cardinals.
NIC had to play without their No. 1 player Ashley Burke, due to having to take an exam. Boswell said, “school is primary and golf is secondary.” Even though he would have loved to have Burke play, he understood that she needs to do well in her classes.
Newcomer Emily Thorud shot an 88, while another fellow freshman, Kayla Lloyd, shot 90. Lloyd had a pretty good round going, but went triple bogey, bogey, quadruple bogey finish. She was very disappointed with her last three holes.
Next event will be April 17-18 at Horn Rapids against Columbia Basin.
