  • NIC softball team earns academic honors

    The North Idaho College softball team was named as an Academic All-American Team by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).   The team’s average GPA for the season was 3.30.

  • Softball players named to NJCAA Academic All-American Team

    North Idaho College softball players Stephanie James of Coeur d’Alene and Vanessa Wood of Hamilton, Mont., were recently named to the National Junior College Athletic Association 2005-2006 Academic All-American Team, which honors sophomore athletes for maintaining a 3.6 GPA or higher.   James, catcher, was the valedictorian of her Coeur d’Alene High School class and maintained a 3.87 cumulative GPA at NIC for 2005-2006.

  • NIC coaching staff and players offer summer softball camp

    Room is still available for area youths to sign up for the North Idaho College’s Cardinal Heat pitching and position play skills camp July 24-27 at Franklin Park, located just east of Rowan and Division in northern Spokane.   NIC’s softball coaching staff and players will lead the camp, which is divided into two heats, one specifically for pitching skills and the other a position play/offensive heat camp.   Both heats will be offered from 9 a.m.

  • NIC Booster Club wraps up the year with a social May 30

    The North Idaho College Booster Club will wrap up the school year with a social in celebration of the college’s successful athletics season and to show appreciation for NIC Booster Club members, sponsors and friends.   The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m.

  • Award winners announced at NIC Booster Club auction/banquet

    The North Idaho College Booster Club announced the winners of this year’s athletics awards at its annual Spring Auction and Athletic Awards Banquet May 6 at the Eagles Lodge.   The award recipients are nominated and selected by the NIC coaching staff.   The Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award was presented to two recipients, women’s basketball player Sara Dennehy from Lake Washington High School in Redmond, Wash., and volleyball player Collese Dornan from Fife High School in Fife, Wash.   Dennehy earned National Junior College Athletic Association all-America second team honors this season and is a two-time first team all-Scenic West Athletic Conference selection.

  • NIC softball players earn regional honors

    Several North Idaho College softball players were named to all-region teams in Region 18 of the Scenic West Athletic Conference.   Pitchers Kelcey Cavan, of Skyview High School in Billings, Mont., and Melodee Mildenberger of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Mont., as well as Christine Shollenberger of University High School in Spokane, Wash., and Spring Montgomery of East Valley High School in Spokane, Wash., were selected to the all-region first team.

  • NIC softball team earns first-ever national berth

    The North Idaho College softball team (34-18) won the Region 18 softball championship May 6, earning its first-ever berth to the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament May 18-20 in Plant City, Fla.

  • NIC presents girls’ summer basketball camp

    North Idaho College women’s basketball coaches and players will lead a weeklong girls’ basketball camp June 19-23 to help participants improve their basketball skills.

    North Idaho College volleyball staff and players are offering two volleyball camps this summer for junior high and high school volleyball players.   The NIC Volleyball Setter-Hitter Camp is designed for junior high school and high school volleyball players who want to perfect their skills.

  • NIC soccer program signs several recruits for 2006 season

    Several athletes recently accepted scholarships to play for the North Idaho College women’s soccer team during the 2006 season.    McKenzie Favero, of Ben Lomond High School in Ogden, Utah, helped lead her team to a second-place finish in the 2005 state tournament.

  • Landscape Technology program to renovate NIC soccer field

    Through collaboration with the athletics department, students in the North Idaho College Landscape Technology program began a renovation project on the NIC soccer field this week.   “The renovation was initiated due to the hazards on the soccer field,” said NIC Soccer Head Coach Dan Hogan.

  • NIC earns all awards in college category at North Idaho Sports Banquet

    North Idaho College swept the 2005 college awards during the 44th annual North Idaho Sports Banquet April 8.   The NIC men’s soccer team was named Team of the Year in the college category and NIC men’s and women’s head soccer coach Dan Hogan earned Coach of the Year.

  • Former NIC soccer player goes pro

    |photo1|Former North Idaho College soccer player Brian Farber is enjoying a successful first season in the Major Indoor Soccer League as a rookie midfielder for the California Cougars.   Farber, a 23-year-old from Sandpoint, played at NIC from 2000 to 2001 and went on to play at Oregon State University before joining the Cougars, an indoor soccer team in Stockton, Calif.

  • NIC announces All-Star Basketball Game participants

    Participants for the boys and girls Idaho State High School All-Star Basketball Games were announced Tuesday by the North Idaho College Athletics Department.   The third annual statewide all-star game is scheduled for Saturday, April 8 at NIC’s Christianson Gym in Coeur d’Alene.

  • NIC athletes honored for academic excellence

    The North Idaho College athletes were honored recently for academic excellence by being named to the academic honor roll for fall semester.   To be named to the honor roll, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits and have earned a 3.0 or higher GPA for fall semester (or have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher through fall semester).

  • NIC to host third annual All-Star basketball game in April

    North Idaho College and the NIC Booster Club have been approved and sanctioned by the Idaho High School Activities Association to host the third annual Idaho High School All-Star Game for both boys and girls basketball April 8.

  • NIC athletes GPA averages nearly 3.0 for fall semester

    North Idaho College athletes ended fall semester 2005 with an average grade point average (GPA) of nearly 3.0, indicating that NIC’s athletes are as competitive in the classroom as they are in their respective sports.
