  • Register now for three-on-three tournament at NIC

    Basketball players are encouraged to register their team for the Coeur d’Alene Shootout, a three-on-three basketball tournament Aug. 18 and 19 at North Idaho College. Coeur d’Alene Shootout is a double-elimination tournament with standard half-court games played to 20 points or 25 minutes.

  • NIC softball player selected to play in the World University Games

    North Idaho College pitcher Kelcey Cavan of Billings, Mont., was recently selected to the United States of America/National Junior College Athletic Association team in the World University Games. Cavan is one of 15 current and former softball standouts that will travel to Bangkok, Thailand Aug.

  • Award winners announced following NIC Booster Club auction/banquet

    The North Idaho College Booster Club announced the winners of this year’s athletics awards following the annual Spring Auction and Athletic Awards Banquet last month. The award recipients were nominated and selected by the NIC coaching staff. The Female Student-Athlete of the Year Award was presented to two recipients, softball player Kelcey Cavan of Billings, Mont., and volleyball player Cintia Alessi from Curitiba, Brazil. As a freshman, left-handed starting pitcher, Cavan led the Cardinals to the team’s first Region 18 championship in school history.

  • NIC coaching staff and players offer summer softball camp

    Room is still available for players ages 8-18 to sign up for the North Idaho College’s Cardinal Heat pitching and position play skills camp July 16-19 at Franklin Park, located just east of Rowan and Division in northern Spokane. NIC’s softball coaching staff and players will lead the camp, which is divided into two heats, one specifically for pitching skills and the other a position play/offensive heat camp.

  • NIC softball player named national All-American

    North Idaho College softball player Angie Boardman of Spokane, Wash., was recently selected as a National Junior College Athletic Association first team All-American. Boardman, a second baseman, was one of just over a dozen junior college Division I softball players selected for the honor nationwide. At the conclusion of the season, Boardman was named to the All-West Region first team for leading the NJCAA Division I in RBIs with 62 in the 2006-2007 season.

  • NIC presents girls’ summer basketball camp

    North Idaho College women’s basketball coaches and players will lead a weeklong girls’ basketball camp June 11-14 to help participants improve their basketball skills. The Girls’ Summer Basketball Skills Camp will help players develop their skills in both individual skills and team concepts, including shooting, defense, ball handling, screens, passing technique, one-on-one techniques and position play. The camp will be progressive in instruction, building on the previous session’s lessons so campers develop their entire game. The camp will be from 9 a.m.

  • NIC softball players named to NFCA All-Region team

    Four North Idaho College softball players were recently named to Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-West Region teams for the National Junior College Athletics Association Division I. “This is a big honor, because these players were selected out of all the teams in the western region,” said Head NIC Softball Coach Don Don Williams.

    Cardinals win regional softball tourney, qualify for NJCAA nationals The 2007 Cardinal softball team captured its second Region 18 tournament championship May 5 with an exciting come-from-behind 15-5 win over rival College of Southern Idaho at the Region 18 Tournament in Taylorsville, Utah.

  • NIC softball team maintains conference lead

        If NIC softball admission wasn’t free, the college probably could have sold $100 tickets to see the Kristen Burtch show Saturday afternoon.     Freshman Kristen Burtch (first base) was instrumental in helping the first-place Lady Cards win two of their four regular-season meetings with second-place Community College of Southern Nevada Friday and Saturday.

  • Softball Game with Wenatchee Rescheduled

    The North Idaho College softball game with Wenatchee Valley Community College originally scheduled for March 13th has been rescheduled for Tuesday March 27th  at 1 pm.

  • NIC to host fourth annual All-Star basketball game in April

    North Idaho College and the NIC Booster Club have been approved and sanctioned by the Idaho High School Activities Association to host the fourth annual Idaho High School All-Star Game for both boys and girls basketball April 14.

  • NIC softball players, coaches to lead hitting and pitching clinics

    The North Idaho College softball coaching staff and players will host a variety of clinics in January.   Three separate three-session hitting clinics will be offered at the NIC Hitting Facility, located at Walnut and Seventh streets in Coeur d’Alene.

  • NIC volleyball players named to All-Region teams
    11/13/2006
    Several North Idaho College volleyball players were named to All-Region teams following the Region 18A championship in which NIC (34-6) won the regional title.   Cintia Allessi of Curitiba, Brazil was selected to the All-Region first team in addition to being honored as Region 18A Player of the Year.   Lauren Stern of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Konae Purcell of Aiea, Hawaii were also named to the All-Region first team.   Amanda Misa of Waipahie, Hawaii was named to the All-Region second team and Daidre Mendenhall of Spokane, Wash., earned honorable mention.   NIC Head Volleyball Coach Bret Taylor was named Region 18A Coach of the Year.   With the regional title, the eighth-ranked Cardinals advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament Nov.

  • NIC players selected to soccer All-Conference/All-Region teams

    Several North Idaho College soccer players were selected to All-Conference/All-Region teams for Region 18 of the Scenic West Athletic Conference during the 2006 season.   NIC men’s soccer player John Prugh of Bozeman, Mont., was named to the All-Conference/All-Region team and has been selected as a Player of the Year/All-American nominee.

  • NIC softball team earns national academic honors

    The North Idaho College softball team was recently named as a Top 10 All-Academic Team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.   The designation was based on GPAs submitted by teams for the 2005-2006 school year.

  • NIC basketball kicks off season with midnight festivities

    North Idaho College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will kick off their seasons with Midnight Madness, a special event to commemorate the first official day of basketball practice across the nation for junior colleges.   NIC’s basketball teams will open their first official practice to the public from midnight to 1 a.m.

  • Recap of volleyball tournament Sept. 15-16 at home: NIC goes 5-1 at Days Inn Tournament

    The North Idaho College volleyball team finished 5-1 this weekend at the Days Inn Invitational Tournament at NIC's Christianson Gym. Seven teams from four states participated in the two day event, including several players from Hawaii and overseas, giving the six-match event an international flair.        The Cardinals, who came into the tournament ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings, improved their record to 22-4.   NIC opened the tournament with a 30-17, 30-15 win over Chemeketa Community College that featured NIC racking up 32 kills with Konae Purcell (10 kills) and Cintia Alessi (8 kills) accounting for the Cardinals' fierce offensive game at the net.

  • Recap of Sept. 17 men's soccer game at Laramie: Bork adds two more in win over Laramie

    Jared Bork scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season on Sunday to give the Cardinals a 2-0 win over Laramie County Community College. Bork scored his first goal of the match on a penalty kick after freshman midfielder Mark Lee was taken down in the penalty area in the 23rd minute. Lee made a great effort to beat two Laramie defenders and was around the third when he was knocked down.  NIC's second goal came in the second half when sophomore midfielder John Prugh started the play with a service into the box that forward David Powers collected and slid to Bork for an open-net finish.    NIC returns home this weekend for two nonconference matches.

  • Men rebound with 1-0 win over Whitman (NCAA Division III)

    The NIC men's soccer team put together a strong performance on Sunday to defeat Whitman College, an NCAA Division III school, with a 1-0 victory in Walla Walla. It was a total team effort with the Cardinals outshooting Whitman 13-10 and freshman goalkeeper Seth Baker earning his third shutout of the season. The lone score of the game came in the 71st minute after a scramble in front of the Whitman goal. NIC freshman forward Blake Hayashi knocked the ball loose to sophomore midfielder Pat Sullivan who drove it into the left panel for the game winner.  NIC travels to Salt Lake City this weekend for its first Scenic West Athletic Conference match on Friday at 4 p.m.

  • Men's soccer team starts with a 5-0 win

    The North Idaho College men's soccer team opened its season at home last Saturday with a 5-0 shutout against Western Wyoming Community College at Bill Eisenwinter Field on the NIC campus.   NIC sophomore captain John Prugh got the Cardinals going in the first half with a goal and an assist and sophomore Alex Day scored the first two goals of his career in the second half to lead the NIC team to its home opener victory.

  • NIC volleyball leads tune-up skills camp

    North Idaho College volleyball staff and players are offering the NIC Tune-Up Complete Player Camp, which is designed for intermediate, junior varsity and varsity players who want to tune-up their skills before school tryouts.   The camp will be from 9 a.m.

  • NBA basketball player to speak at NIC Booster Club luncheon

    Former Gonzaga University standout Richie Frahm, who now plays in the NBA, will be the featured speaker at the North Idaho College Booster Club luncheon at noon Tuesday, July 25 in the Coeur d’Alene Resort’s Shore Lounge.    Frahm averaged 12.5 points per game during his four-year collegiate career at Gonzaga University.

  • NIC women’s basketball team earns academic honors

    The North Idaho College women’ basketball team was named as an Academic All-American Team by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).    The team’s average GPA for the season was 3.4.
