  • NIC coaching staff and players offer summer softball camp
    6/23/2009
    Room is still available for players ages 8-18 to sign up for the North Idaho College’s Cardinal Heat pitching and position play skills camp July 27-30 at Finucane Park, located on the northwest corner of Prairie Avenue and Fourth Street in Hayden. NIC’s softball coaching staff and players will lead the camp, which is divided into two heats, one specifically for pitching skills and the other a position play/offensive heat camp. Both heats will be offered from 8 a.m.

  • WRESTLING: NIC to host summer wrestling camps

    North Idaho College will host several wrestling camps in June and July for wrestlers of all ages. The first camp will be offered the week of June 20-24 for high schoolers.

    The North Idaho College Booster Club announced the winners of this year’s athletics awards following the annual NIC Athletics Hall of Fame Induction, Awards Banquet and Auction held earlier this month. The award recipients were nominated and selected by the NIC coaching staff. The Female Student Athlete of the Year Award was presented to NIC women’s soccer player Natalie Nichols from Post Falls, Idaho.

  • SOFTBALL: NIC splits with No. 5 Salt Lake Community College

    The Cardinal softball team snapped a 31-game winning streak for the Salt Lake Community College Bruins on Friday, May 1, and then repeated with another split on Saturday, May 2 in the last weekend of regular season play. The series began with tough competition as both games on Friday went into extra innings.

  • NIC Booster Club auction to incorporate hall of fame induction

    This year’s North Idaho College Booster Club’s annual spring auction and awards banquet will include the induction of the first class of inductees to the NIC Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday, May 2 in the Edminster Student Union Building Ts’elusm Dining Room. The NIC Athletics Department and Booster Club Hall of Fame Induction, Awards Banquet and Auction will begin with a social and silent auction at 5:30 p.m.

  • NIC men’s basketball players sign with NCAA schools

    Several North Idaho College men’s basketball players have signed to play with NCAA schools next season. Melvin Jones, a 5-10 sophomore point guard from Seattle, has committed to play for Portland State University. Jones was named to the All-Scenic West Athletic Conference first team and averaged 13.2 points per game.

  • NIC men’s basketball player receives NJCAA honors

    North Idaho College men’s basketball player Renado Parker, a forward from Seattle, Wash., was recently named as an All-American through the National Junior College Athletic Association. Parker was one of four freshman named to the NJCAA first team. This season, Parker averaged 14.7 points per game, 6.5 rebounds and 1.26 steals and had a 59.5 field goal percentage.

  • GOLF: Victories for the Cards

    Salina, Kansas - The Cardinals are flying high with an opening round victory over five-time national champions Trinity Valley College from Athens, Texas. The Lady Cards were all business from the opening tipoff until the final buzzer as they scratched out a 63-53 victory in the first round of the national championships in Salina, Kansas.

    On March 14, Idaho’s best high school players participated in the sixth annual Idaho All-Star Game at North Idaho College. The event featured both the boys and girls all-star games as well as a three-point and slam dunk contests.

  • Brackets posted for NJCAA national basketball tournament

    Brackets have been determined for the National Junior College Athletic Association 2009 Division I Women’s Basketball Championship at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas March 17-21. The North Idaho College women’s basketball team is making an appearance at the national tournament for the first time since 1997. NIC is seeded No.

  • Lake City High School softball player signs with NIC
    3/11/2009
    Jessica Ross, a senior at Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene, recently signed a letter of intent to play softball at North Idaho College next season. Ross had a .368 batting average and was on the state runner up team in 2006, her freshman year.

  • NIC basketball players earn tournament/regional honors
    3/11/2009
    Several North Idaho College men’s and women’s basketball players recently earned tournament and regional awards following the Scenic West Athletic Conference Region 18 tournament March 5-7 at NIC. The NIC women’s team rallied to come back from an 18-point deficit with 11 minutes left in the Region 18 championship game March 7 to beat the College of Southern Idaho 66-61.

  • MEN'S BASKETBALL: NIC men sweep Snow; win conference

    Ephraim, Utah - The North Idaho College men’s basketball team defeated Snow College on back-to-back nights to win the Scenic West Athletic Conference championship and the right to host the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 18 tournament.

    Three North Idaho College men’s soccer players recently signed letters of intent to play for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II schools in the fall of 2009. Sophomore midfielder Renatto Brito from Boring, Ore., will transfer to Northwest Nazarene University in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in Nampa, Idaho next fall.

    NIC dropped its opener, a four-game series with Snow College, but was able to come back for game two to get a win. In game one, the Cardinals only could muster one hit off of Snow’s pitcher.

  • Area softball players sign with NIC

    Several area softball players have signed letters of intent to play softball for North Idaho College next season. Brittany Amende, a middle infielder from Timberlake High School in Spirit Lake, Idaho, was named most valuable player in 2008 and was an All-League selection in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

  • NIC men’s basketball player commits to Portland State
    1/9/2009
    North Idaho College men’s basketball player Melvin Jones recently committed to play for Portland State University next year. Jones, a 5-foot-10-inch point guard from Seattle, Wash., averaged 10 points per game for the Cardinals last season, placing him third on the team. He also led Chief Sealth High School in Seattle with 18.8 points per game his senior season while being named first team All-Metro League. He is the son of Jennifer Annable. The NIC Cardinals are currently 15-0 on the season and are ranked 16th in the nation in the new National Junior College Athletic Association polls released Jan.

  • NIC volleyball players earn postseason awards

    North Idaho College volleyball players recently earned several regional and national awards. This year’s Cardinal volleyball team placed 11th at the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament in Council Bluff, Iowa in November. Following the national tournament, Marketa Hanzlova, a 6-foot, 1-inch outside hitter from Liberec, Czech Republic, was named to the NJCAA All-American second team.

  • MEN'S SOCCER: Brito Earns NJCAA All-American Award

    Sophomore captain Renatto Brito earned a spot on the 2008 National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honorable mention team, making him the fourth Cardinal in program history to receive and NJCAA All-American award.

  • NIC softball players, coaches to lead hitting and pitching clinics

    The North Idaho College softball coaching staff and players will host a variety of clinics in January. Three separate three-session hitting clinics will be offered at the NIC Hitting Facility, located at Walnut and Seventh streets in Coeur d’Alene.

    North Idaho College men's basketball player Michel Swita, a 7-foot center from Paris, France, recently verbally committed to play for Montana State University next season. Swita transferred to NIC from Delaware Technical and Community College where he redshirted in 2007-2008.

  • MEN'S BASKETBALL: NIC wins Border Clash

    The 20th-ranked Cardinal men's team improved to 12-0 on the season with a 82-64 win over rival Spokane Community College in the third annual Border Clash.

    With two players at the National Junior College Athletic Association volleyball national tournamnet and one player at the NJCAA national soccer tournament, the NIC women's basketball team beat the Wenatchee Valley Knights 87-52 and the NJCAA 13th-ranked Sherdian Generals 81-69 to improve their record to 4-1. Lindsay Wimett led the way against Wenatchee by scoring 29 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

    North Idaho College softball player Brianna Harbour was recently named All-American Scholar-Athlete by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2007-2008 academic year. To earn All-American scholar honors, athletes must maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher. Harbour is a sophomore outfielder from Coeur d’Alene.

  • WOMEN'S SOCCER: NIC falls to Laramie County Community College in double overtime

    The NIC women's soccer team took on ninth-ranked Laramie County Community College at LCCC's home in Cheyenne, Wyom., and gave up the "golden goal" three minutes into the the second overtime period to fall to the Eagles. Laramie County started the scoring in the 29th minute of the match when a shot deflected off an NIC defender and away from where Alicia Kahler, the Cardinal goal keeper, was waiting to save the shot.

  • Former NIC athlete to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games

    Former North Idaho College wrestler Heinrich Barnes will wrestle in the 66 kilograms freestyle category for his native South Africa in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Barnes came to NIC from Pretoria, Guateng, South Africa and was a former South African national champion, capturing an eighth-place finish at the Junior World Championships.

    The North Idaho College men’s golf team recently earned several academic honors through the National Junior College Athletic Association. The team was named an NJCAA Spring Academic Team of the Year for earning an average 3.29 team GPA.
