NIC men’s basketball program signs recruits

Several athletes recently accepted scholarships to play for the North Idaho College men’s basketball team for the 2008-2009 season.

Renado Parker, a 6-foot-6-inch forward from Kentridge High School near Seattle was rated the No. 1 power forward in the state of Washington by NorthwestHoops.com. He averaged 21.6 points per game and was the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association 4A state player of the year.

Kelly Jackson, a 6-foot-10-inch center from Hogan High School in Vallejo, Calif., led his team with 3.8 blocks per game.

Brandon Grissette is a 6-foot-1-inch point guard from Elgin High School near Chicago, Ill.

Nick Fromm, a 6-foot-6-inch post from Lake City High School in Coeur d’Alene, was selected to the All-Inland Empire League team.

Taylor Stevens, a 6-foot-7-inch post from Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Marysville, Wash., averaged 20.4 points per game and nine rebounds per game during his senior season.

Martell Anderson, a 6-foot-5-inch wing from Romulus High School in Michigan, led his team to a 21-4 record his senior season and can play four different positions.

Mike Bostic, a 6-foot-8-inch post from Colony High School in Ontario, Calif., averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per game and attracted interest from several Division 1 schools.

B.J. Shearry, a 6-foot-5-inch wing/post from Timberline High School in Boise, averaged 15 points and 10.3 rebounds per game during his senior season. He was also named to the All-Idaho first team and won the most valuable player award and slam dunk championship at the Idaho All-Star game.

Michel Swita, 7 feet, from Paris, France transferred to NIC from Fort Scott Community College. He redshirted last year.

Brandon Haas, a 6-foot-4-inch wing from Post Falls High School was an All-Inland Empire League selection his senior year. He redshirted at Spokane Community College in baseball last year before transferring to NIC this year.

Demtrius Davis, a 6-foot-1-inch point guard from Chicago, Ill., transferred to NIC. He played at Mt. San Jacinto Community College two years ago and redshirted at West Valley Community College last year.

“We are very excited with the group of student-athletes that we have signed at this point,” said Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jared Phay.
