NIC students coordinate urban adventure race
11/4/2009
Students from the North Idaho College Resort/Recreation Management program invite community members to participate in the Swervin’ Urban Adventure Race beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 on NIC’s main Coeur d’Alene campus.
This inaugural event will utilize features of NIC’s campus, such as the beachfront, streets and Lake Coeur d’Alene, for the running, biking, paddling and other elements of the race.
The race will begin behind NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building. Check in will be at 9:30 a.m. on race day. The race is open to the public and winners will receive prizes donated by local sponsors. Cost is $45 per team of two if registered by Nov. 9 or $50 per team for late registration.
The event was designed by a group of students in the NIC Resort/Recreation Management programming class, which requires students to coordinate a community event as part of its curriculum.
“This is the most challenging fun you can have without leaving town,” said owner of Vertical Earth Mike Gaertner, who helped the students design part of the course.
