Collaborative mixed media exhibit to open Oct. 4 in NIC Corner Gallery

Spokane artists Gordon Wilson and Scott Kolbo have worked together before, Wilson the current chair of the Whitworth College art department and Kolbo a Whitworth assistant art professor. But the two teamed up in a different way recently to create a collaborative mixed media exhibit called “Collaboration” on display Oct. 4 through 29 in North Idaho College's Boswell Hall Corner Gallery. The theme of the exhibit is “place” and how people's sense of place affects their lives. This exhibit represents the artists' investigation of how people shape their environments to reflect their beliefs and how cultures and environments can shape the people who live in them. Wilson and Kolbo always began with an agreed upon idea from which the pieces were born. Some works were created by one of them, other times the piece was passed back and forth, with each artist building upon each other's progress, until the piece was complete. Therefore, the exhibit is full of mixed media pieces that are exemplified by two individual styles, yet unified by subject matter. A gallery walk will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 in the gallery followed by a slide lecture discussion presented by the artists at 1 p.m. in the Driftwood Bay Room of NIC's Edminster Student Union Building. The opening reception for the exhibit will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 in the gallery. The Boswell Hall Corner Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission to the gallery is free. Information: (208) 769-3427.
