NIC to jazz up holiday season with fall concert

The North Idaho College Jazz Ensemble will team up with the vocal group JazzCo. to spice up the holiday season with a fast-paced jazz concert “Two Groups, One Night” Saturday, Nov. 20. The NIC Jazz Ensemble will perform a Latin piece by Stan Kenton called “Malaguena,” Oliver Nelson's up tempo jazz waltz “Back Woods,” the classic “I'll Be Seeing You” featuring Lake City High School Choir Director Laci Hedahl and “Misty” featuring David Cooper on flugelhorn. “This is one of the most eclectic mixes we've ever done for this concert,” said NIC Band Director Terry Jones. “The pieces span from the 1920s to modern pieces with all styles of jazz in between. This concert will really show the versatility of big band.” NIC's jazz choir JazzCo. will perform the Boyz2Men version of “Trashin' the Camp” from Disney's “Tarzan,” the Sergio Mendes version of the John Lennon and Paul McCartney song “The Fool on the Hill” and the Manhattan Transfer version of “Operator.” Todd Butler will be featured on piano as well as several vocal soloists. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in NIC's Boswell Hall Schuler Auditorium. The performance is free and open to the public. Information: (208) 769-3276.
