NIC Food Services Supervisor places in regional competition

|photo1|North Idaho College Food Services Supervisor Steve Taylor placed in a food preparation and presentation competition at a recent National Association of College and University Food Services Conference.
NIC was the only two-year college at the regional convention, which was attended by dozens of college staff from the eight-state continental region that includes three Canadian provinces.
A total of nine chefs participated in the Culinary Challenge competition in which a saddle of lamb was prepared from a raw state in 75 minutes.
Participants were judged on adhesion to American Culinary Federation food safety rules and guidelines, starting with a specific point value and having points taken away for each violation.
Each competitor presented the meat with a starch and vegetable, preparing four plates for judges.
Taylor received a bronze medal, fourth place, in the competition. There was no gold medal awarded and only four points separated first and fourth place.
