NIC kicks off new orientation/registration system
Thursday, June 23, 2005
It's not uncommon for the North Idaho College campus to be full of students throughout the year. But something is different on campus this summer.
Once a week, approximately 100-150 students come to campus for a four-hour program filled with student success tips, advising sessions and registration for fall classes.
NIC completely revamped its registration and orientation process this spring and launched a new program earlier this month for new degree-seeking students.
The new Orientation, Advising and Registration Sessions (OARS), which are led by current NIC students, are designed to give first-time students the information they need to be successful at NIC.
The OARS sessions include information on NIC academic programs, student services, extracurricular activities and establishing good study habits. The sessions also provide new students with the opportunity to meet with advisors and register themselves using NIC's online registration system NICOnline.
A separate session is held for parents and significant others, who are welcome to attend the sessions.
“Before, new students would have to attend an orientation, meet with an advisor and register before the start of the new semester,” said Alex Harris, who is helping to coordinate the OARS sessions. “Now students will get it all done in one day and be ready to go for fall semester.”
Sessions are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30, July 8, 20, 26, and Aug. 1.
There's still time to apply for admission to NIC.
Individuals interested in taking classes at NIC this fall should submit an application for admission as early as possible. Applications are available
online
or at the Admissions Office in Lee-Kildow Hall. New students who have received an acceptance letter from NIC should call (208) 769-7821 to sign up for a session.
