NIC to host math competition for area high schoolers
The North Idaho College math department will host the 24th annual Math Contest Thursday, Nov. 3 in the Lake Coeur d’Alene Room of Edminster Student Union Building.
High school students from Idaho’s five northern counties and Latah County will participate in this competition, intended to encourage students to take an interest in mathematics. This year’s event will also include a “career showcase,” during which high school students and their teachers will have the opportunity to speak informally with people who use math in their careers.
Participating schools include Lake City High School, Sandpoint High School, Post Falls High School, Lakeland High School, Kootenai High School, Potlatch High School, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy, Classical Christian Academy, Post Falls Christian Academy and Immaculate Conception Academy.
More than 100 high school students are expected. They will be tested on topics in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, basic principles of calculus, probability and the math of computers and logic.
At 1:15 p.m., awards will be given to the top three seniors and the top three non-seniors in large and small school divisions. Awards include trophies, a graphing calculator and an NIC tuition waiver. For More Information
