NIC men's soccer team wins Region 18 title

The North Idaho College men's soccer team clinched the inaugural Region 18 men's soccer championship Oct. 29 by defeating Colorado Mountain College 5-0.
The Cardinals, playing in soggy fall conditions, dominated the entire match and were led by sophomore Garga Caserta's two goals. Also scoring for the Cards were sophomores Derek Taylor, Manuel Arceo, and Ian Songer.
Caserta was named Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Year and four other Cardinals received All-Region awards. Manuel Arceo, Peter Hiel, Lamar Kumangai-McGee, and Chase Robeson were named to the All-SWAC team. Freshman Mike Vredenberg received All-Region Honorable Mention recognition.
With the win, the Cardinals move on to the NJCAA district playoffs against No. 3 Yavapai Community College of Prescott, Ariz., on their home field. Kick off is scheduled for noon Saturday, Nov. 5 with the winner advancing to the eight-team NJCAA national tournament, which will be held Nov. 17-20 in Tyler, Texas.
