NIC men's soccer player earns national honors
|photo1|North Idaho College men’s soccer team captain Garga Caserta has been named to the 2005 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I All-American honorable mention soccer team.
Caserta, a sophomore from Araqatuba, Brazil, is the first NIC player to be named to the NJCAA All-American team.
Caserta was also named Player of the Year for the Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC), was named to the All-Region/All-Conference team and was honored as NIC’s Most Valuable Player for the 2005 season.
Caserta’s 18 goals and seven assists helped lead the men’s soccer team to a 12-2-3 overall record and the team’s first-ever SWAC championship. NIC went on to play in the West Division finals where the team lost to eventual national runner-up Yavapai Community College.
Several other Cardinals also received post-season recognition in NIC’s first season in the SWAC conference of the NJCAA.
Forward Manuel Arceo of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, midfielder Peter Hiel of Helena, Mont., defender Lamar Kumangai-McGee of Spokane, Wash., and defender Chase Robeson of Missoula, Mont., all four sophomores, were selected for All-Region/All-Conference awards. Freshman forward Mike Vredenberg of Hayden, Idaho was named to the All-Region/All-Conference honorable mention team.
