NIC women's basketball players receive honors
Several North Idaho College women’s basketball players received honors following the Region 18 Basketball Tournament March 8-11 in Coeur d’Alene. The Cardinals finished first in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with a 24-7 season and lost to Salt Lake Community College by a score of 75-59 in the championship game of the Region 18 tournament Saturday night.
, a sophomore wing from Kirkland, Wash., was named to the All-Region 18 first team and the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 18 All-Tournament team. Dennehy is a graduate of Lake Washington High School in Kirkland.
Dennehy averaged 14.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the season. She scored 22 points in NIC’s semifinal tournament game against Dixie State College of St. George, Utah and 19 points against Salt Lake.
Dennehy is being recruited by the University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College and Southern Utah University.
, a sophomore guard from Spokane, Wash., was named to the NJCAA Region 18 All-Tournament team as well as the All-Region 18 second team. Courchaine is a graduate of Central Valley High School in Spokane.
Courchaine averaged 10.9 points per game for the season and shot 86.4 percent from the free throw line.
Courchaine is being recruited by Carroll College, Lewis-Clark State College, Dixie State College and Southern Utah University.
, starting point guard from Gallup, N.M., has been named to the NJCAA All-Region 18 second team. Jones, an NIC sophomore from Gallup High School, averaged 6.5 points per game this season.
Jones is being recruited by the University of Idaho, Weber State and Dixie State College.
, a sophomore starting forward from Missoula, Mont., has been named to the NJCAA All-Region 18 second team. Koppen averaged 10.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this season.
Koppen is being recruited by the University of Montana-Western and Lewis-Clark State College.
NIC head women’s basketball coach Chris Carlson was also named Coach of the Year for the region.
