NIC men's basketball players receive honors


Several North Idaho College men’s basketball players received honors following the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 18 Basketball Tournament March 8-11 in Coeur d’Alene. The No. 2-ranked men’s team earned a first round bye in the tournament and lost to Dixie State College of Utah 84-66 in the tournament semifinals. The men’s basketball team finished the season 23-8.
 
Darin Nagle, a sophomore post/wing from Potlatch High School in Potlatch, Idaho, was named to the All-Region 18 Scenic West Athletic Conference first team. Nagle averaged 13.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and had 42 blocks this season.
 
Mac Hopson, a freshman guard from Jefferson High School in Portland, Ore., was named to the All-Region 18 first team. Hopson averaged 13.7 points per game and finished the season with a 73.7 free throw percentage and 64 steals.
 
Frank Clair, sophomore wing from Leo High School in Chicago, Ill., was named to the All-Region 18 honorable mention team. Clair averaged 13.6 points per game and shot 72.4 percent from the free throw line.
 
NIC head men’s basketball coach Jared Phay was named Coach of the Year for the region.
