Applications to NIC's Pharmacy Technology program available
Application packets are now available for the North Idaho College Pharmacy Technology program. It is a selective admission program and the deadline to apply for fall semester 2006 is June 1.
The Pharmacy Technology program is an 11-month, technical certificate program that begins in August.
The program prepares graduates for positions working under the supervision of a licensed and registered pharmacist in retail and institutional pharmacy practice settings. Students develop skills in processing and filling prescriptions, inventory management, processing insurance claims, controlled substance management, maintaining patient profiles or records, sterile products preparation and unit dose filling.
The pharmacy field is currently experiencing a pharmacist shortage and pharmacists are being called upon to provide clinical drug monitoring services and more drug information for patients. These issues have led to an increased demand for trained pharmacy technicians to fill the void.
Salaries vary widely, but in general, starting pharmacy technicians can earn between $10 and $14 per hour in pharmacies throughout the region.
To apply to the program, contact the Health Professions and Nursing Division at (208) 676-7132 or pick up a packet in the Health Professions and Nursing Office in Room 257 of the Meyer Health and Sciences Building or the Admissions Office in Lee-Kildow Hall.
