NIC Theater Department to present one-act plays

The North Idaho College Theater Department will present several one-act plays in the performance of “Themes on Variations: An Evening of One-Act Plays” April 19-22.

The one-act plays will include “Variations on the Death of Trotsky,” directed by guest director Jack Green and written by playwright David Ives. The evening will also include “The Nina Variations” by Steven Dietz, which will be directed by NIC Theater Director Joe Jacoby.

“There is no chance for boredom in this collection of plays,” Jacoby said. “The evening features plays that take a situation or a scene from an existing play and look at various possibilities for how it might play out. In the case of ‘Variations on the Death of Trotsky,’ this creates hilarious outcomes. In ‘The Nina Variations,’ Dietz creates a work that is romantic, philosophical, emotional and comedic through all of its turns.”

The cast for the one-act plays includes students LeeJa Junker of Coeur d’Alene, Rebecca McNeill of Coeur d’Alene, Garrett McDonald of Hayden Lake, Chris Chilton of Spokane Valley, Wash., Arron Craft of Post Falls, Chris Fannon of Billings, Mont., Zachary Rollston of Coeur d’Alene, Alyssa Calder of Coeur d’Alene, Whittney Hawk of Coeur d’Alene, Lizz Horton of Post Falls, Samantha Robson of Rathdrum and Daniel Soults of Coeur d’Alene.

The performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night in Boswell Hall Schuler Auditorium. The April 20 performance will be signed for the deaf.

The shows are free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Call to reserve seating.
