|photo1|North Idaho College Assistant Vice President for Planning, Assessment and Research Kathy Christie recently received the Women of Leadership Award at the eighth annual Spokane Area Women’s Leadership Conference awards luncheon April 11.
Christie received the award in the academic staff/administrator category, one of five categories for the awards. She was nominated by her peers and colleagues for the award, which is presented to a nominee who has earned admiration and respect through her connections, has vision and brings others toward it by way of collaboration, faces life’s challenges with grace and courage and lives with dignity, integrity and honor through her commitments.
“I was honored and humbled to win the Women of Leadership Award, as there are so many deserving women nominated each year,” Christie said. “Since I teach leadership development and have served as a woman administrator for almost 30 years, it was just a big thrill to receive the award and it deepened my commitment to teach others about the development of leadership abilities.”
Christie has worked at NIC for the past 29 years, starting in 1977. She has served as the director of adult basic education/GED, coordinator of adult and continuing education, assistant dean of academic affairs, assistant vice president for instruction as well as her current position in organizational planning, assessment and research.
Christie has also served as a supervising administrator for the NIC Children’s Center, the Professional Development Department and NIC’s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. At NIC, Christie started the college’s Service Learning Program, directed NIC’s 2003 Accreditation Self-Study and started the Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Development course, which she helps teach. Christie also serves as chair of the NIC United Way campaign committee and as a board member for Wisdomworks, a nonprofit educational organization. She was also honored in 1998 as the recipient of the Boss of the Year Award presented by the International Association of Administrative Professionals.
