NIC to welcome new students with barbecue, fair
North Idaho College will welcome new students to campus with the New Student Welcome Barbecue and Fair Friday, Aug. 25 in Fort Sherman Park, located behind NIC’s Edminster Student Union Building.
The event, sponsored by Mountain West Bank, is free to all new, incoming NIC students and includes a free barbecue and fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Live music will be provided by Cary Judd, a guitarist, drummer, singer and songwriter from Wyoming. The fair will include game booths with prizes for activities such as disc golf putting booth and a whiffle ball home run contest. The booths will be operated by NIC faculty and staff who will also help answer questions that new students have about NIC.
The barbecue is typically part of the New Student Orientation held each fall. However, the new student orientation process has been replaced with NIC’s new Orientation, Registration and Advising Sessions (OARS), which were held throughout the summer.
“Since students already received a formal orientation through OARS, this is more of a chance for new students to alleviate some of their social inhibitions by coming to campus for a relaxed, fun event,” said NIC Student Activities Coordinator Alex Harris.
Fall semester at NIC begins Aug. 28.
