Gonzaga University Athletics Director Mike Roth will be the featured speaker at the North Idaho College Booster Club luncheon at noon Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Tony’s on the Lake, located on Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive in Bennet’s Bay.
A native of Moses Lake, Wash., Roth played basketball at Big Bend Community College and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Willamette University in 1979. He earned a master’s degree in athletics administration and physical education from Gonzaga University in 1983.
Roth was an assistant men’s basketball coach at Gonzaga from 1982 to 1983 then returned in 1986 as a physical education instructor. The following year, he joined the athletics department as assistant athletics director/Martin Centre director, a position that later expanded to include direct administration for 10 of Gonzaga’s 14 sports programs. In 1991, Roth was named as the university’s compliance officer to the NCAA and he was named as Gonzaga’s athletics director in 1998.
Since becoming athletics director, Roth has overseen the upgrade of Gonzaga’s facilities for all athletics programs. He has also played a role in laying the foundation that has led to the university’s recent athletic success, specifically in NCAA men’s basketball, men’s soccer, women’s crew and women’s cross country.
The NIC Booster Club holds its regular’ weekly meetings Tuesdays at noon in the Coeur d’Alene Resort’s Shore Lounge. The meeting is usually held at a different location on the last Tuesdayof the month and typically features a guest speaker.
