NIC wrestling coach wins Pounding Away at Illiteracy weight loss challenge

|photo1|North Idaho College Athletics Director Al Williams and NIC Head Wrestling Coach Pat Whitcomb celebrate at the conclusion of the Pounding Away at Illiteracy final weigh-in. Williams lost 24 pounds, dropping from 232 pounds to 208. But Whitcomb won the challenge losing 33 pounds, weighing in at 262 after he initially stepped on the scale at 295. The two participated in the challenge from Oct. 2 through Nov. 3, each collecting pledges for their weight loss to raise money for the wrestling program’s literacy program, the Shirley Parker Reading Program. The total amount raised is still yet to be tabulated since many of the pledges were on a per-pound basis. As part of the contest rules, Williams will now have to buy Whitcomb dinner for two at the Outback Steakhouse.
