Former North Idaho College basketball standout Winston Brooks will be the speaker at the NIC Booster Club Luncheon at noon Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Centennial Distributing in Hayden.
Originally from Richmond, Va., Brooks played for NIC from 2000 to 2001. NIC went 22-9 that season with Brooks as the team captain. He also broke NIC’s single-season assist record and earned second team All-Region honors.
Brooks transferred to Gonzaga University where he played both the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons as the starting point guard. During those seasons, Gonzaga went 53-13, went to the NCAA tournament both years and received its highest national ranking up to that point at fifth in the nation.
NIC Head Wrestling Coach Pat Whitcomb will also present an update of the results of the NIC wrestling team’s showing at the National Junior College Athletics Association national wrestling tournament in Rochester, Minn., Feb. 23 and 24.
The NIC Booster Club holds its regular weekly meetings Tuesdays at noon in the Coeur d’Alene Resort’s Shore Lounge. The meeting is usually held at a different location on the last Tuesday of the month and typically features a guest speaker.
The public is welcome to attend any of the weekly meetings.
