Allison Meehan from Post Falls has signed to play volleyball for North Idaho College in 2012.
Meehan helped lead her Post Falls High School volleyball team to a second-place finish at the Idaho 5A State Tournament. Her teammates voted her the Most Valuable Player and Team Co-Captain. She was named second team All-Idaho 5A state tournament team and received first team All-North Idaho honors as well as first team All-Inland Empire League two years in a row.
Academically, she is ranked ninth overall in her senior class at Post Falls High School. She is a Scholar Athlete, a member of the National Honor Society and is a Key Club member.
Meehan also competes in track, in which she holds records at Post Falls High School in the triple jump as well as the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay. She placed fifth at the Idaho State 5A track and field meet jumping 35 feet, 11 inches.
“I chose NIC because it will be a really good fit for me,” Meehan said. “I really like the coaches and the players and my sister had good things to say about it. It is a really high level of volleyball and I believe it will help me achieve higher success later in life.”
“I am very excited about Allison,” said NIC head volleyball coach Kandice Kelly. “She is a great kid, comes from a great family and is a phenomenal athlete. I loved having her sister Danielle on the team this year. Allison will be able to fill the shoes of some players we lost in many aspects. She can be a setter, a right side or a middle. I haven’t seen her play as an outside hitter before, but I have seen her play every other position and she does it well. I will never have to worry about Allison. Academically, she is very smart. Athletically, she will do everything you ask and more. I couldn’t be happier; she is one of the best volleyball players in this area and we are lucky to have her. The NIC girls returning next year really liked the way she played and of course loved her personality. The Meehan kids and family are wonderful and we are very lucky.”
