Five students topped the annual North Idaho College Fall 2011 Speech Contest, earning awards for speeches written and presented through Communications 101 classes this semester.
Students were selected by their peers to represent their classes in the contest, which was judged this year by NIC speech instructors.
Trish Glienna from Post Falls earned first place and $150 for her speech on theater productions.
Second place and $125 went to Jackie Schwartzmeyer from Coeur d’Alene with her speech on traveling to Vietnam.
Jenny MacMillan from Coeur d’Alene won third place and $100 and Cory Henrich from Monticello, Minn., won fourth place and $75 for their speeches on ending domestic violence.
Fifth place and $50 went to CJ Sobkowiak from Spokane with a speech on the Matthew Shepard story.
