HayleeMae Dennis, a 5-foot 10-inch outside hitter from Enumclaw High School in Washington has signed to play volleyball for North Idaho College in 2012.
“HayleeMae is one of the best all-around volleyball players I have seen in a long time,” said NIC Head Volleyball Coach Kandice Kelly. “She is just as good in the back row as she is in the front. She is a great leader on the court and is very consistent and competitive. When I saw her in Vegas, I knew she is exactly what we needed at NIC. She fit in great with the team and my style of coaching. Her leadership on and off the court is exactly what we need next year and I am going to count on her for many roles this next season, which I know she can handle. We are very lucky to have HayleeMae at North Idaho College. Every time I see her play, I get more excited and thankful she is a part of our NIC family.”
Dennis was team captain for the Hornet varsity volleyball program, making two state 3A appearances in her four years of high school. She also earned second team All-League (South Puget Sound League 3A) her sophomore year, first team All-League and All-Area (Tacoma News Tribune) her junior and senior years. She was chosen to participate in the 3A/4A Puget Sound Region All-State volleyball game her senior season.
She played for the Puget Sound Volleyball Club until U-15, where she then played at the nationally ranked Washington Volleyball Academy for two years. This year, she is again playing with Puget Sound Volleyball Academy hoping for a fifth chance to participate at the Junior Olympics in Columbus, Ohio in June 2012.
She went into the Las Vegas Invitational in February as an unsigned senior and was contacted by several different colleges. After much research and college visits, Dennis said she was most excited about her experience at North Idaho.
“When I first talked to Coach Kelly on the phone, I knew by her personality and how she presented herself that it would be a perfect fit,” Dennis said. “Then after meeting the team and different advisers around campus, I had fallen in love with everything about North Idaho College. I can’t wait to be a part of a nationally ranked team and to succeed to my full potential with Coach Kelly.”
