NIC to host Constitution Day public forum ‘Voter 101'

North Idaho College and League of Women Voters of Kootenai County are hosting a “Voter 101: Empowering Today’s Voters” public forum from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17 in the Edminster Student Union Building’s Lake Coeur d’Alene Room.

NIC students and the public are encouraged to learn about the 26th Amendment to the Constitution, how to make sense of political ads, why voting is important for college students and Idaho’s voter registration and voting process.

Four speakers will make presentations at the forum including former Idaho State Rep. George Sayler, Kootenai Elections Manager Carrie Phillips, Associated Students of NIC President Julie Salinas and Coeur d’Alene Press Reporter Maureen Dolan.

The forum is being held in celebration of Constitution Day, which celebrates the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. The league will register voters following the forum.
