The North Idaho Lady Cardinal basketball program has reached new heights with the early signing today of two NIC sophomores, Georgia Stirton and Renae Mokrzycki. Both players have committed to play for NCAA tournament qualifiers as Stirton will become a Gonzaga Bulldog and Mokrzycki will become an Idaho Vandal in the fall of 2014. Region 18 player of the year Georgia Stirton led the Cardinals to the NJCAA national tournament and a 28-5 record.
"Georgia caught a lot of attention last season as she demonstrated her exceptional guard skills and ability to perform most of the more difficult skills used by great guards," said head coach Chris Carlson, who has former NIC guards starting at SMU and the University of Arizona this season. Mokrzycki landed herself at the University of Idaho with her blue collar work ethic and exceptional tenacity at the small forward/power forward position. As a part time starter on last season's SWAC championship team, Mokrzycki was able to log several double double efforts in both scoring and rebounding.
"Renae is just a great pleasure to coach and a giver to her team," Carlson said. "Today, dreams came true for two Lady Cards and the best part of these dreams is that we will be able to share their journey as they remain right here in our backyard," added Carlson.
