Administrative Departments


Alumni Association

  • Continue to increase contact with all alumni to reacquaint and foster relationships between the College and its alumni. 
  • Continue to develop systems to improve and expand successful efforts to increase alumni membership.
  • Provide opportunities for Alumni to become involved in the Alumni Association, Foundation activities and the College.
  • Increase the base of support for the Association, the Foundation and College regarding current and future projects.

Athletics

  • Increase community support in funding NIC Athletic Foundation. 
  • Continue to refine system to track and increase memberships in Booster Club. 
  • Expand efforts for corporate sponsorships. 
  • Install a computerized ticket system for events in Christiansen Gymnasium. 
  • Continue efforts in establishing a fitness center for campus.

Business Office

  • Enhance the web credit card payments to include payment of residence hall 
    and bookstore charges. 
  • Complete the five year bids for banking services. 
  • Complete the federal 1098 T reporting requirement. 
  • Plan for training of replacement Controller position.

Campus Safety and Support Services

  • Reorganize the office staff and workload in a way that allows the Director more efficient use of the Senior Administrative Assistant for on-going projects. 
  • Work to keep department employee moral up in the face of budget cuts, salary 
    issues and increased workloads.

Custodial

  • Search for ways to reduce expenditures and improve budget accountability within Support Services, especially the Custodial area. Pursue ways to streamline custodial services and re-deploy staff due to shrinking resources without laying-off personnel.

Security & Parking

  • Work to retain current budget levels for the Security & Parking areas so as not to undermine department operations or staffing. Continue to search out opportunities for quality Security Officer Training programs that are cost effective for the department.
  • Seek ways to improve the campus Shuttle Bus service to better accommodate  staff work hours, while enhancing the advertising and benefits of the Shuttle service.

College & External Relations

  • Develop comprehensive policy and procedures for use of NIC logo and seal.
  • Increase efficiencies in publications procedures, marketing assistance, and 
    service to all departments.
  • Increase NIC's profile in the media and strengthen relationships with the 
    media and community at large.
  • Develop online archive of photos for campus use.
  • Further develop website to accommodate audience needs and comply with 
    ADA.
  • Strengthen college's relationship with federal, state, and local government officials.

Computer Services – Administrative Computing

  • Administrative Systems Integration: Define and coordinate activities to implement an integrated institutional software system capable of providing process and reporting improvements. Personalized web-based information for students should be maintained for their convenience. 
  • Institutional Data Warehouse: Continue assistance to the Office of Planning and Assessment on the creation of a college data warehouse. Define information flow between new student information systems modules and warehouse. Identify report writing software and staff training necessary to process and utilize information.
  • Customer Service Initiatives: Assist administrative information and computing users by furthering the five customer service initiatives adopted Spring 2002.
  • Remote Support of Users: To speed and improve assistance to computer users, a "remote support" approach will be researched, adopted, and implemented by a cross-departmental Computer Services team.

Computer Services – Communications

  • Network Refresh: Complete Phase 2 of the campus network infrastructure upgrade to develop 100 mbps service between campus nodes. Improve and extend wire plant and research the addition of wireless services. When funded, select and deploy network management tools.
  • Idanet: Continue to participate with the State Board of Education and other state agencies to obtain the benefits of a statewide network for converged voice, video, and data. Initial benefits to NIC community would be redundant paths and increased bandwidth to the Internet. 
  • Reliability and redundancy: Review all mission critical servers and circuits to  incorporate redundancy. Improve reliability by employing network management tools to track, monitor, and maintain network performance, security, and operation. Develop a simple Disaster Recovery Plan for the Siebert Computer Center to be used as a model for the other communications/computing rooms.
  • Equipment Replacement Schedule: Develop an equipment replacement schedule for servers, network communications devices, voice switches, and related equipment in the college's four communications rooms.

Foundation

  • Secure financial support for capital needs and special funding initiatives in support of the College's academic mission. 
  • Develop and implement on-going efforts to foster financial support from NIC employees for student scholarships and other priorities.
  • Employ a comprehensive strategy to expand current base of donors to the Foundation through current and future fundraising endeavors.
  • Enhance communication within the campus community regarding the 
    complete fundraising environment.

Grants

  • Support special funding and capital initiatives
  • Communicate grant opportunities to NIC community
  • Educate NIC community about grants coordination and provide training
  • Foster campus and community collaborations for grants

Human Resources

  • Create departmental administrative procedures for APM that are effective and provide consistency.
  • Finalize a new upward appraisal tool and process.
  • Develop a recruitment tracking system that complies with EEOC standards.
  • Create new Supervisor's Series that builds on previous workshops.
  • Create or modify college-wide employment policies and procedures.

Physical Plant

  • Complete all work request within 30 workdays.
  • Implement CMMS Work System.

  • Ensure accreditation report is well done and on time.

Planning, Assessment, and Research

  • Facilitate the preparation of the Accreditation Self-Study Report and prepare for the on-campus visit in April 2003.
  • Assist the Outcomes Assessment Committee in the analysis of instructional outcomes assessment practices. Publish results.
  • Guide the Strategic Planning Committee's work on updating and designing the next Strategic Plan for 2003-2006.
  • Develop a plan in cooperation with Computer Services for the implementation of data warehousing at NIC including required data structures, software reporting tools and staff training to collect and process information.
  • Support the work of the Enrollment Management Committee and the Retention Sub-Committee with appropriate institutional research data.

President's Office

  • Continue implementation of Facilities Master Plan, secure funding for Health and Sciences Building, Longhouse Learning Center, and other facilities.
  • Pursue acquisition of Stimson Mill site in collaboration with City of Coeur d'Alene and University of Idaho.
  • Implement Technology Planning Committee's recommendations for campus technology.
  • Support completion of accreditation self-study.
  • Support board of trustees in continued development of new trustees, goal setting, evaluation, etc.
  • Continue communication with campus community regarding budget and administrative decisions, and other policy information important to the campus community.

Professional Development

  • Evaluate campus staff development and training needs in lieu of budget cuts.

Transportation

Admissions Office

  • Operate with higher efficiency, teamwork, and professionalism.
  • Create policy/procedures/training manual.

Advising Services

  • Improve the presentation and effectiveness of Advising Services' web page making it more informative and interactive. September, 2002.
  • Work with Computer Services to develop a processor that automatically loads COMPASS scores on a weekly basis. May, 2002.
  • Increase the effectiveness of advising through: advising steering committee, student focus groups, advising tutorial, training and interactive webpage resources. Ongoing.

Career Services

  • Implement annual evaluative survey of department. 
  • Identify cost-free ways to increase awareness of Career Services.
  • Pursue identified options for expanding the availability of Career Services to a growing number of students and prospective students. Explore expanding and/or enhancing awareness of non-appointment services.
  • Analyze computer use in Career Services as well as campus-wide use of the Idaho Career Information System for future planning. 
  • Explore cost-free options for professional development opportunities for Career Services staff. 

Counseling Services

  • Assess the faculty and staff perception of and needs for the counseling support of students.
  • Develop the Counseling Services web site to deliver education of counseling issues.
  • Design and recommend a counseling component to NIC's Emergency Response Plan.

Disability Support Services

  • Transfer DSS forms to computer files to facilitate more efficient departmental processes. 
  • Further develop the DSS website to better facilitate reaching students with disability related information and process, i.e., requesting accommodations and appeal process, student clubs, etc.
  • Evaluate current DSS processes not requiring the use of the computer and streamline as necessary to increase efficiency.

Financial Aid

  • Implement electronic processes wherever possible.
  • Streamline internal procedures to expedite the student financial aid process.
  • Provide opportunities for staff development and/or training.
  • Develop a work-study marketing plan, evaluate procedures, and implement the use of on-line technology.

Registrar's Office

  • Implement an updated Records Retention Policy.
  • Provide continued training to Faculty on features available to them using NIC Online and increase usage of the program to 75%. 
  • Continue to streamline the NIC Online registration process. The goal is to have 70% of continuing academic and professional technical students register online for the entire 2002-2003 academic year, including summer.
  • FERPA training available online to all employees.

Student Health Services

  • Develop a system for assessment of health needs for the college community and evaluation of satisfaction with the delivery of our services.
  • Continue development of a campus wellness program.
  • Continue to explore service delivery options and relationships with Residence Hall and outreach centers.

Academic Departments

 

American Indian Studies

  • Increase Indian student enrollment.
  • Full-time Indian Studies program coordinator and instructor.
  • Promote program to regional tribes and rural Indians.
  • Promote community awareness of and support for the program.

Anthropology

  • Provide high quality instruction that promotes lifelong learning and allows students to develop the capabilities needed to understand the past and meet the complexities and challenges of the future.
  • Periodically insure courses that meet the needs of students who plan to pursue a degree in anthropology at a four-year college or university.
  • Consistently address and promote the General Education Abilities for our students across multiple sections of anthropology courses.
  • Continuing to work with diversity issues and promote the infusion of diversity into our department and curricula.

Biology

  • Maintain current quality of education despite the impending decrease in funding.
  • Continue to facilitate coordination of lecture and laboratory with multiple section courses.
  • Develop a department web page with syllabi posted.

Business Administration

  • Develop a planning and assessment process that focuses on accountability and continual growth.
  • Continue to expand the delivery systems to business students throughout the College service area.
  • Begin a mentoring program within the division to that will pair full-time faculty with part-time faculty.
  • Find additional ways to cut expenses while increasing efficiency and maintaining quality courses.
  • Continue to develop tools and strategies for marketing the Business Administration program.

Chemistry (and Environmental Science)

  • Provide excellent educational opportunities for students in the classroom and laboratory in courses for chemistry majors, other science and engineering majors, allied health majors, non-science majors, and environmental health majors.
  • Provide for maintenance of the best faculty and staff possible.
  • Participate in the planning process for the new Health and Sciences Building.
  • Develop class schedules that will allow the department to serve a maximum number of students, according to their needs.
  • Implement the recommendations from the 2002 program review.

Child Development

  • Align Child Development curriculum with the newly adopted Early Childhood Education/ Early Childhood Special Education Blended Certificate.
  • Continue to provide specialized education opportunities to meet the needs of students in the outlying areas including the Coeur d' Alene Tribe, Head Start staff, and TEACH scholars.
  • Continue to develop and support the Early Childhood Apprenticeship/Healthy Child Care America program in North Idaho.

College Skills

  • Work in cooperation with Student Services to improve the advising and placement of students into College Skills (CSC) classes.
  • Continue to work toward enhancing communication within our division and the English and Math divisions.
  • Offer College Study Skills (CSC 105) Summer 2002 term to gauge level of interest. Work with Distance Education office to promote future course offerings.
  • Work in cooperation with TRIO to coordinate the tutor program.

CS, Engineering & Math

  • Through creativity, efficiency, and support from administration, maintain the quality of departmental course offerings and activities in the face of the bleak budget picture.
  • Develop strategies to support full-time and part-time faculty in teaching roles, administrative roles, and other duties as assigned.
  • Continue to enforce prerequisites and implement new strategies to check proper course placement.
  • Work with the campus community to improve advising of students.

Education

  • Provide a myriad of activities which necessitate reflection and experience with K-12 school children.
  • Include cultural diversity issues in all courses.
  • Present problems for students to solve creatively.
  • Monitor students' use of oral and written communication.
  • Equip the education department's classroom with more current technology.
  • Remain current with transfer requirements for UI, EWU, Gonzaga, Whitworth, WSU, CWU, UW, UM, MSU, WMU.

English

  • Retain the quality of program offerings in the English Department by A. Maintaining caps on classes B. Working with both full- and part-time instructors on a regular basis to standardize/normalize grading 1.) To "norm" with anchor papers, the English Department will draft statement describing "superior," "average," and "inferior" writing from which instructors will develop grading rubrics for the individual classes they teach
  • Encourage professional development by creating a rotating system of funds distribution that ensures two things: A. The maximum amount of money possible is awarded to the maximum number of applicants per year 1.) Explore ways to increase the amount of professional development funds available B. All full-time faculty are given the opportunity to use their portion of the professional development funds at least once a year 
  • Examine ways to reduce textbook and supply costs to students by A. Adopting bundles of texts from which to choose for all courses with multiple section offerings (ENGL 099, ENGL 101, and ENGL 102) B. Encouraging faculty to place course materials online C. Exploring the option of having students purchase copied course materials through the bookstore or the copy center as opposed to receiving such materials in class from instructors 
  • Continue to reduce unnecessary departmental expenditures and/or reallocate funds to better meet essential departmental needs
  • In order to support and expand our comprehensive Writing Center, one that fully meets the needs of the College's students and faculty, the English department needs to secure a stable budget to cover the needs of the Writing Center in two specific areas: A. Staffing 1.) Coordinator's salary 2.) Consultants' stipends B. Supplies 1.) Paper, pens, pencils, etc. 2.) Photocopier and printer cartridges 3.) Informational resources 4.) Tutorial resources

Fine Art

  • To structure the course work as a broad introduction to the nature, vocabulary, media, styles, and themes of the visual arts. Through practical application and theoretical experiences, a fine art student is introduced to the communicative functions of art, how art and society interrelate, the history of visual expression, and ultimately how he/she makes use of this information for individual expression.
  • To develop and expand artistic capabilities and aesthetic awareness through sound foundational skills and exposure to the potentials of art.
  • To provide adequate physical space and the range of traditional courses to allow students a broad foundation to assist in realizing their objectives regardless of academic decisions, i.e.,

     -- transfer to upper division education
     -- private studio work

  • To integrate the recommendations of the Fine Art Program Review Team 2000-01 with existing goals 1-3.

Foreign Language

  • Seek ways to improve communication between Student Services and our department (particularly during registration) to ensure better placement of students.
  • Improve our foreign language placement test system and implementation.
  • Continue to provide language offerings to the community via alternative methods and at off-site locations when feasible and appropriate.
  • Develop a unified vision of the language lab and continue to evaluate its resources and update as necessary.

Geology/Geography

  • Provide excellence in the classroom and laboratory in the following areas: Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Systematic Mineralogy, Regional Geology, and Physical Geography and related Geographical sciences.
  • Provide for the maintenance of departmental faculty and staff excellence to ensure the depth of programs.
  • Construct class schedules that will allow the department to serve as many students as possible.
  • Engage in curriculum development to increase the breadth of departmental offerings to stay current with emerging technologies and issues facing modern society.

Graphic Design

  • To develop and expand artistic capabilities and aesthetic awareness through sound fundamental skills and exposure to the potentials of art as they relate to society.
  • To provide a full range of graphic design courses that give students a broad foundation to assist in realizing their career objectives.
  • To maintain the integration of fine art and graphic design for the purpose of providing cultural knowledge and societal awareness to maximize the students' creative potential as designers.

History

  • Add History 290 (The Historian's Craft) to the curriculum so that our History majors who transfer to the University of Idaho will not have to take the lower division course there.
  • Develop and implement flexible schedules in order that courses and workloads be designed according to student and faculty needs. Always offer history courses in rooms with maps and other appropriate teaching aids.
  • Investigate the potential for incorporation of service learning into some history courses.

Humanities

  • Generate a central file of all teaching materials for Hums 101.
  • Include as many humanities faculty as possible in staff development activities.
  • Enhance instruction with computer, beam (or LCD) projector and cabinet in Boswell 224 (as recommended by program review of 2000).
  • Schedule long-range sequence of seminars and discussion groups for collegial staff development among humanities faculty and other interested faculty.
  • Continue monthly meetings of Montage team for planning and for discussing teaching methods and materials.

Journalism

  • Maintain general excellence of the program and The Sentinel. Update course syllabi to include statements regarding general studies, understanding and accommodating disabilities and working with "new" technology such as the Internet, digital photography and related computer equipment. The syllabi need a sentence regarding interruptions by students' cell phones and pagers. 
  • Computer equipment needs continual updating to accommodate continuing changes in hardware and software for learning purposes and to be compatible with the LCC MacLab and The Coeur d'Alene Press, where The Sentinel is printed. Ideally journalism would have enough Macintosh machines (12) to have its own lab in our building. This would eliminate scheduling and equipment conflicts with the LCC lab and allow odd-hour use.
  • Journalism spaces need revamping. The tile floor is falling apart and beyond being cleanable. Tiles are missing and broken. The floor is cold for us and noisy to the people below. We need a carpet. Our rooms always are cold. Our electrical system is inadequate, with wire going everywhere. Our walls need painting.

Music

  • To provide quality music education to all students enrolled in music courses, building on the strengths and quality of the faculty members.
  • Improve the quality of the educational space within the music department. 
  • Enhance the sound-proofing of practice rooms, rehearsal rooms and studio space.
  • To provide appropriate equipment for quality education in music courses, the music department will continue to develop and adjust a schedule of basic maintenance and replacement for such equipment. From this schedule, an adequately funded budget will be developed.

Nursing – Associate Degree

  • Continue to develop the process for systematic total program evaluation.
  • Develop plan to manage increased number of students in the ADN program.
  • Improve the assessment area of didactic testing in the ADN program.

Philosophy

  • Identify and retain qualified adjunct faculty.
  • Meet as a department monthly for informal discussion. 
  • Develop additional Internet and IVC courses in Philosophy. 
  • Explore development of an Environmental Philosophy course.
  • Explore and plan the idea of a philosophy/religion film and video lab. 

Photography

  • Work with NIC Community Education to identify qualified instructors and develop short courses to meet community interests and department objectives.
  • Research transferability of an Introduction to Digital Photography course.
  • Offer a special topics digital darkroom course.
  • Improve classroom instruction by updating display technology.

Physical Education & Dance

  • Develop a planning and assessment process that focuses on accountability and continual growth; Implement an annual departmental planning and assessment process that is integrated with Strategic Planning and Outcomes Assessment.; Tie together planning and the budget process.
  • Develop new ways for students to access the physical education program through Distance Education; Utilize the NIC Grants Coordinator to research and obtain funding for new equipment.
  • Expand the Physical Education facility to meet the needs and interests of the growing population that we serve; Seek out funding and support for an expanded facility that supports program, college, and community needs; Develop a plan to maintain and continually upgrade the facilities and equipment available through the physical education program at North Idaho College.

Political Science

  • To provide a rigorous and empowering education for our transfer students to four year colleges and universities.
  • To teach and encourage all students how to recognize and evaluate individual and group political behavior for effective social responsibility and citizenship in society.
  • To encourage students to become aware of the importance of political, social and economic issues of our times.

Psychology

  • Establish a mentoring system for adjuncts.
  • Create a 4th full-time Psychology position with a solid background in physiological & neurological psychology (in the "hard" sciences).
  • Offer two 101 courses that both fulfill the AA & AS degree requirements (the same topics taught from two different perspectives—there are texts addressing both):Introduction to Cognition & Neuroscience and Introduction to Psychology.
  • Offer more internet courses.
  • Provide a broad range of vocational information speakers & field trips for Psi Beta honor society members.

Sociology

  • Work to enhance the continuity and quality of instruction by hiring a second full-time sociology instructor.
  • Integrate service-learning as an option in more courses, furthering students' learning. 
  • Promote and further ongoing dialogue between sociology instructors by having periodic meetings, insuring consistency in terms of outcomes in multi-section courses and across the department in general. 
  • Work on and enhance the quality of our instruction in sociology.

Social Work

  • Advance student learning through community service, collaboration, needs assessment and intervention and service learning projects. 
  • Develop social justice advocacy skills through participation in local, state, and federal government.
  • Work in partnership with NICHE to develop social work programs that have a sound curricular foundation and meet community needs. 
  • Coordinate the NIC and LCSC Social Work Programs to meet the needs of transferring students by providing a smooth transition without compromising the integrity of either social work program. 
  • Obtain grant funding to support identified need areas such as social work in the public school system, quality childcare for students, and community outreach efforts. 

Speech Communication

  • Define and write job description for "Lead Teacher" for COMM101.
  • Continue to hold Speech Contest in both fall and spring.
  • Develop rationale for another full-time speech teacher.
  • Continue to keep updated on current technology in classroom.
  • Continue to keep informed of changes in the communication and teaching field through attendance of classes, conferences and workshops.
  • Continue to offer alternative delivery systems for course material.

Theatre

  • To do outreach performances in one of the five northern counties.
  • To reorganize the costume warehouse.
  • To meet a minimum number of enrollments for Thea 102 and Thea 272 in the fall semester.

Professional-Technical Departments


Accounting Assistant Program

  • Increase enrollment and continue to develop the curriculum to meet needs of students and communities.
  • Keep the software and technology on a balance with industry standards. 
  • Complete program web page and utilize/maintain it for printed materials as well as student enrichment.

Auto Collision Repair Technology

  • Increased community and industry contacts to ensure current and future placement of graduates.
  • Continued need for industry training. Strong need to visit successful collision repair programs nation-wide. Need to visit automobile manufactures. 
    Understand assembly line process (General Motors, Ford, Allstate Insurance/Tech-Cor).
  • Develop and implement an on-line Web page.
  • Continue to maintain clean, safe, updated lab.

Automotive Technology

  • Implement a one-year certificate option.
  • Maintain total program enrollment at 22 students.
  • Implement Powerpoint presentations into classroom instruction where appropriate. 

Business & Office Technology

  • Increase number of second year students and graduates in all BUSO programs by 10%.
  • Revise and/or expand existing programs to address current and emerging workforce needs.
  • Increase number of students receiving program-related certification by 10%.
  • Increase enrollment in BUSO programs by 10% over a two-year period.

Carpentry

  • Implement the second year of the carpentry program leading to an AAS degree.
  • Continue to expand on-line and digital photography use in the classroom.
  • Continue to prepare carpentry students for life and work in the construction industry, especially the latest in industry materials and methods.

Computer Information Technology

  • Provide instructional resources to CITE students, outside the classroom, through a terminal server.
  • Provide two CITE orientation sessions before fall 2002.
  • Increase overall program enrollment through marketing efforts. 
  • Enhance instructional knowledge of industry certifications by pursuing emerging technologies.

Culinary Arts

  • Increase the number of students enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program.
  • To incorporate an internship in industry into the curriculum.
  • Expand the length of the instructional day.

Diesel Technology

  • Strive to expand scope and depth of CD-ROM based laboratory training materials such as those currently used in the truck and heavy equipment industry to ensure effective learning opportunities exist to meet student and industry needs.
  • Provide a high-quality Diesel Technology program to meet student and community needs by upgrading existing mock-up equipment and training aids.
  • Provide a safe and effective laboratory learning environment by replacing worn and outdated tools and equipment with newer tools and equipment with modern safety features.
  • Continue to develop and foster strong training partnerships with industry to meet educational training needs.
  • Explore program expansion options such as evening and summer courses as well as online offerings.

Drafting Design & Technology

  • Fill 32 incoming seats in our program for fall 2002.
  • 100% graduate placement.
  • Remain current with industry standards, equipment & software.
  • Instructor training.

Electronics Technology

  • Purchase 4 Logic Analyzers to support digital instruction.
  • Purchase 4 high speed mixed mode oscilloscopes.
  • Upgrade circuit design and simulation software to support current industry component utilization. (12 sites)
  • Actively pursue additional new students for the program. 

Human Services

  • Maintain certificate program enrollment at 12-16.
  • Complete 5-year program review.
  • Develop articulation agreement between NIC's Human Service A.A.S. Degree and at least three regional bachelors level programs.

HVAC/R

  • Provide and instruct entire HVACR Technology Program technical theory courses in an instructor led, web based asynchronous model.
  • Achieve PAHRA Accreditation (Partnership for Air-conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Accreditation).
  • Acquisition of updated HVACR equipment for HVACR Lab.
  • Expand offerings of online courses to give an HVAC/R emphasis to the second year of a construction oriented AAS degree offered by NIC.

Law Enforcement

Pharmacy Technology

  • Increase Pharmacy Technology program enrollment to bring class size up to 10-12.
  • Promote pharmacy technician education and training and NIC's Pharmacy Technology program to local and statewide lawmakers and educators.
  • Implement formal exit competency assessment (hopefully to include the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board National Exam) to determine skill 
    level of students completing the Pharmacy Technology program.

ABE/GED

  • Increase the number of students accessing the ABE program to 1475 for the year 2002-2003. Targeting the low-level learners as set forth in the Idaho ABE Five Year Plan.
  • Meet and/or exceed Idaho state standards with regards to ABE students and their performance in the program.
  • Track the number of former ABE/GED students that: 1) Entered Postsecondary Education or Job Training; 2) Obtained GED/HSE; 3) Gained Employment; 4) Retained Employment.
  • Strive for excellence of instruction by providing staff development opportunities and relevant technology.

Community Education

  • As appropriate, work with qualified instructors to develop and deliver optional credit offerings.
  • Work to improve customer service processes, both as Director for Community Education and as a staff member of the Workforce Training Center.
  • Develop ongoing, strategic instructional partnerships with community agencies, groups and individuals to expand base of facilities available for personal enrichment classes.
  • Work with Academic Division Chairs to enhance opportunities for faculty to teach Community Education classes.
  • Utilize, when possible, North Idaho College Sandpoint Center for delivery of 
    instruction.

Customized Training

  • Finish developing and printing marketing packets for Customized Training (8) client service areas.
  • Integrate the Marketing information for the (8) client service areas into English and Chinese Web pages.
  • Expand current marketing plans to include International marketing initiatives using printed English/ Chinese information packets, promotional CDROMs, and additional Webpages.
  • Give key business development support to Fort Sherman Institute for program marketing and pricing strategies.
  • Support the development and integration of a new Worker Retraining Department at the NIC workforce Training Center for 2002-2003 fiscal year.

Idaho Small Business Development Center (WFTC)

  • Improve the success of small businesses through delivery of our core services—one-on-one business consulting, training and research.
  • Expand and enhance partnerships to strengthen our ability to research and assist small businesses.
  • Refine and improve our organization to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and quality.

Workforce Development and Apprenticeships

  • Continue to improve working relationships within the departments and on the main campus.
  • Add to the variety of affordable, quality, credit-free learning experiences.
  • Increase course offerings that result in certification.
  • Find successful ways to promote classes that will increase class enrollments.
  • Pursue acquisition of a web-based registration/tracking program.

Center for New Directions

  • Maintain quality service to the target populations in the five northern counties.
  • Work with the Workforce Training department to implement the new WIA program.
  • Work with the department of Institutional Research to design, distribute, and analyze a perception survey of the CND both on and off campus. 
  • Continue to work closely with counseling services to maximize the mental health and personal development resources for NIC students.
  • Expand and strengthen CND ties with other community service and employment and training agencies in the area.

Children's Center

  • Develop a Center Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Continue to explore and implement ways to improve operational efficiency.

Computer Services - Labs

  • Printing Benefits/Efficiency: Implement the "collection" phase of the Pay-For-Print project to obtain revenue to offset the growth of printing costs. Encourage student education-related printing. Continue to coordinate policies with the Lab's Student Advisory Board and the Library's policies so that benefits are understandable to everyone.
  • Replacement Equipment: Improve PC performance in Bay 4 and LCC 235 by maintaining the computer replacement schedule in the Molstead Computer Lab. Resite existing computers in Business classroom LCC 235 to improve instruction there. Replace one of the Lab's oldest 5si printers.
  • Student Advisory Board: Convene and conduct regular meetings of the newly created Student Advisory Board for the Labs to gather service improvement suggestions and feedback on policies. Extend topics to broader student computing use. Coordinate with college staff responsible for managing the facility.
  • Customer Service Initiatives: Assist student and faculty lab computer users by furthering the five (5) customer service initiatives adopted Spring 2002.

Computer Services – Instructional Computing

  • Classroom Service Coordination: In conjunction with other NIC information technology support units, develop an informational campaign to clarify to division chairs and instructors the services available from Instructional Computing, the Help Desk, Instructional Media Services, Distance Education, and other providers.
  • Classroom Technology Inventory: Create a comprehensive, updateable inventory of classroom information technology available in college classrooms to aid planning for instructional use and replacement. Enlist the cooperation of all divisions prior to the inventory creation.
  • Customer Service Initiatives: Assist instructional information and computing users by furthering the five (5) customer service initiatives adopted Spring 2002.
  • Wireless Research: Research the use of wireless applications in higher education for the purpose of developing pilot projects in conjunction with college educational divisions. Coordinate with Networks and Systems group on the planning.
  • Student Advisory Board: Extend the scope of the Student Advisory Board for the Computer Labs to obtain comment on technology use by students throughout the college.

Distance Education

  • Facilitate enrollment growth in Sandpoint and other off-campus sites.
  • Based on enrollment trends, review workloads and staffing needs to support faculty and student success.
  • Provide opportunities for a qualified faculty member to provide mentoring and support for faculty and staff teaching and learning at a distance.
  • Maintain existing technologies based on accurate data and needs analysis.
