902 NIC students who responded to a Student Opinion Survey given in 2006, indicated their purpose for attending NIC.

To take courses necessary for transferring to a 4 year college or university 48%
To take courses necessary for transferring to another 2-year college  4%
To obtain an associates degree 23%
To complete a professional technical program  8%
To take courses to obtain or maintain a certificate or job related/self improvement courses  7%
Other reasons or no definite purpose 10%

Student Persistence
For the first-time, full time students who are seeking a degree the following table summarizes their persistence.

Attend in the fall and return the next spring semester 78-80%
Attend in the fall and return the following fall semester 49-52%
