Strategic Plan 2008-2013

Strategic Planning Process Overview

The 2008-2013 North Idaho College Strategic Plan was developed over an 8-month period by constituents from across North Idaho.  The total process had several phases, outlined below. The Strategic Planning process has resulted in a 5-year plan that will help guide NIC’s development in several critical areas.

Phase 1 began with collecting three kinds of data:  Image & Perceptions, Peer Comparison, and Demographic Data for the College and region.

The Image & Perception data utilized telephone surveys as well as internal and external focus groups. This was the first opportunity for community input into the process.

In Phase 2, the data was compiled for review by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee (SPC) and Stakeholder groups.

These data were examined in Phase 3 by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee. The committee consists of 10 NIC members & 10 community members. The committee evaluated the data as well as NIC’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT). Finally, the committee developed a set of preliminary goals to be reviewed by Stakeholder groups.

Phase 4 consisted of the Stakeholder groups meeting to review the data, participate in a mini-SWOT analysis, and give comment on the preliminary goal analysis. All of this was based on the data compiled in Phase 2 and the preliminary work done by the SPC in Phase 3.

Finally, in Phase 5, the information collected from the process was reviewed again by the Steering Committee and President’s Cabinet. PC drafted a plan with a final set of goals and objectives. This draft was open for public comment before being sent to the BOT.

The goal then was to add action items and measurable outcomes to each objective. The plan will be updated each year along with the development of new yearly action plans.
